A valid point. We'll just have to wait and see. I think a lot of companies (because I have some minor experience here) have difficulty with the transition to manufacturing in China because they don't understand how to manage their overseas production lines properly. (The Artist series is made in China.)

They assume that a factory is a factory, and once you've worked directly with a few Chinese factories, you know that's not the case.

I hope you are right about getting the issues cleared up. I am looking at the Tango but the Euphonix is significantly less money. I am using an MCU w/ a couple of extenders now and am rather pleased. If something came along which could improve my workflow, I would upgrade.

Anyone getting these error messages?

I'm in PT 7.3.1 and OSX 10.4.9
HD3 Accel

I'm getting these error message rather frequently then the unit stops working. Any suggestions? I'd try calling support but I think they are probably closed today.
Thanks!
Jeff

What Mac are you running? Also, 10.4.11 might be working better with EuControl software, though I may have just made that up...

I have a Dual 2G G5 and a MacBook. I run EuControl on the MacBook (all are networked thru ethernet) and that keeps my ProTools computer less bogged down. (You uninstall Eucontrol on the PT Mac and then install Eucon workstation software.)

I would try that if you have another Mac in the room.

I had similar problems. I upgraded to 10.4.11 and all has been smooth since then. There was some Network enhancements in the 10.4.11 upgrade.
for what it's worth my MCU would crash within minutes when I ran it under 10.4.9.

Thumbs down

I just got my MC-Control and I have to admit I'm rather disappointed.

#1: The display is flickering. It's not flickering REEEEAAAAL bad, but especially if you see it just in the corner of your eye it's really annoying. Plus, all the lit buttons flicker, too.

I went to a store and asked them if they could show me their MC Control ... same there, flickering, ugly.

#2: The scrub-wheel has a very cheap and fragile feel to it. (I won't mention the stands)

#3: The EuCon software impaired my Logic 8. I had to reassign my audio device every time I reopened logic or loading a song. After uninstalling the software the problems were gone.

The design is great, the features are great but after all I'm not willing to spend my money on something that's still in beta. I was happy to get a neat looking, flat (!) controller. Now it looks like I'll get myself an MCU, sink it into my table and be happy.

Greetings,
Kevin

I just bought an MC Control and MC Mix and couldnt be happier. Am using it with Logic 8 and the current updates/firmware for software and hardware. Until I installed the latest version of eucon software and firmware etc, I wasnt so happy with everything, but after that update everything is peachy.

I know what people say about the stands, but honestly do you need something that sits on a desk all day to be built like a truck? And realistically are you going to break the legs off it with the amount of pressure you will be placing on the knobs/faders etc? If you dont like the legs, dont bother with them, I havent found much difference with/without them.

The MC's have improved my workflow out of sight. I used to be on pro tools with a command 8 and switched to logic 8 a little while ago but have not had a control surface until I bought these recently. The MC's have actually made me more productive than when I was using pro tools - command 8 is an archaic surface.

The only thing I would like to see is the ability to control stuff like the ESX in logic - it might be possible, but I am lazy and it hasnt bothered me too much yet, when it does I will work out how thats done, or if its not possible I am sure they will release an update with a map for logic's virtual instruments in due course.

Any one got their mc mix to work with other software e.g. itunes. I read some where that they were controlling firefox with it too but there is nothing in the manual.

Any ideas?

oh yeah, is it normal for the values of the fader not to correspond to the software levels ?

1.2.0 is out. Supposedly it squashes the -infinity fader bug and more.

EuControl 1.2

It is with great pleasure that we announce the release of EuControl 1.2, including the softkey editor, which enables users of the MC Control to create their own custom softkey pages, including softkey macro buttons.

EuControl 1.2 is fully internationalized, meaning buttons can be created in users' native language.

EuControl 1.2 comes with a recommended firmware update that fixes fader issues seen on some Artist Series control surfaces after EuControl 1.1.1

Many default button sets have seen enhancement and for some applications, complete redesigns.

Please download EuControl 1.2 and the User Guide for the MC Control here:

Yup. MetricHalo's Channel Strip is no fun to sweep frequencies using the knobs. The response is erratic and jumpy. Logic's EQ works just fine.

Same here in ProTools 7.4!! Knobs are very jumpy when controlling plug-in parameters on the MC Control.

My MC Mix is an earlier model (got it early February) and I have never had jittery faders!!! I was just thinking yesterday how it's been working rather smoothly for a while now. I installed 1.2.0 this morning and now I have jittery faders. what's up with that? I uninstalled 1.1.1 and ran the script to delete prefs before I installed the software and then did the firmware update. This update doesn't seem to be an improvement for me. I may have to go back to v1.1.1.

based on the fact that a flickering strip follows when/if I nudge a track, I thought that the flickering buttons was s/w related. A flickering display I haven't seen (yet?!)
Or have you received a confirmation from Euphonix that it's a hardware issue?

reverted software and firmware back to the v1.1.1 package and all is good.

still, I have never heard back from any emails that I've sent to Euphonix (thru the contact page on their website) and some features that used to work still do not
(i.e. shift-home puts only my first fader in the right-most fader position, not the 1st bank of 8 as it used to and should)

John at Euphonix emailed me back a couple times and got me sorted out by taking the firmware back a version. All is good again.

I too get the jitter big now (i never got it before) with 1.2
How do you roll back? Is it a case of un-installing (from applications) and then starting again but with v1.1?

Uninstall 1.2 from the file in your folder in apps. Then reinstall 1.1.1. Run the firmware upgrade. It will ask you if you want to downgrade your firmware, do it. Then run the 1.2 installer again and DONT run the firmware upgrade. You can then use the features of 1.2 and loose the jitter problem.

Flickering screens

Hi Guys,

Just thought that I would let people know this.

\My First MC Control had a flickering screen so I contacted Euphonix who told me that some units had a faulty backlight.

I now have a replacement unit with absolutely no flicker at all.

So anyone with a flickering screen should get a replacement.

Cheers

Andy

Edit: Actually there is a little flicker, but hardly noticeable now.

All the units I've seen had a flickering display. I noticed it immediatly - especially if you see the screen in the corner of your eyes it's flickering real bad - at least when I consider the price of one unit. It's not a kid's toy, after all. ;)

I think that if you want to use the fader you can only do it with the mc mix by simply flipping the faders. On the control you have to use the rotary encoders.

wow, I had really wanted one of these things but judging from the amount of problems still there and the high cost it really seems like junk. Surprising coming from Euphonix. I hope they work out all these problems before the PC release (if it ever comes).
