Has anyone seen this?

We just relaunched the site last week. Just curious as to what peoples thoughts were.

www.INDISTR.com

Amazing concept, amazing vision.

With what we've seen happen in the last 3 weeks with Radiohead, Jamiroqui, Trent Reznor, and now Madonna going independent, I think this could really make moves.

75% payout, INSTANTLY! (never heard of anyone doing this). Bundled albums (never heard of anyone doing this). NO CONTRACTS and it's FREE (never heard of anyone doing this).

Please let me know your thoughts.

Why is this better than a band selling music on their own website?

Well if you think about it, using INDISTR means they don't have to pay hosting costs to have their own website. INDISTR is free and unless the artist is going to pay a programmer to develop a digital store for them, it's not that easy for an artist to just sell digital tracks on their site while gaining exposure. And remember, this is supposed to be for the true "INDEPENDENTS". It's just a free alternative to paying an aggregator to use Itunes, Snocap, etc., who don't pay but around 60% and it takes them months to get the artists their money. Can you imagine the amount of interest they must collect for holding the artists money for that long. Ridiculous.

Bland? Why because it doesn't have gawdy advertisements all over the place? Do you know what good design is? Your probably a big fan of the grape background on this site aren't you? I know this is a forum, which I appreciate, but damn man you can't tell me you think the design on this site is good.

I actually like the design. Simple and straight forward...much better than all the flashy "20 topics in 1 window" sites...

Beyond design now, can you tell me if you know of any other digital distributors paying artists instantly? I would appreciate any input I can get, we just launched so it's nice to hear people's views that are into the music industry, and not from a guy nay saying the site who can't even spell solely.

Thanks everyone

Are you affiliated with, or are you actually the owner of this site?

Yes, I'm affiliated with the site. I'm helping to market the site and get artists to sign up and get involved. What disputes could arise? no contract, meaning the artist can host their music for as long or as little as they want. If the artist should get signed, they can just pull their music off of the site, no biggie.

You really need to put the faq section on top of the homesite, if people/bands have to look long for your terms of service, they will most likely not buy/join. The design is basic, but I must say I quite like the minimalist approach.

If someone feel that you donīt live up to your word, or feel that the percentage being paid is wrong then there are no agrement to fall back on.

A contract regards both sides. Since no contract is used you could start pay 50% if you liked or use the music in ways that was not intended in the begining, you are not obliged to any thing since no papers are signed.

"Has anyone seen this?" is a manipulative title for this promotional thread.

It's like the subject heading for a spam email.

As far as the "no contract" portion, we show the artist the number of plays, number of downloads, etc., all in the backend which is accessible to all of the members. It's really cool to demo the site for people, especially when you can buy a song from them while your on the phone with them and they instantly see the funds available in their Paypal account.

As far as Tunecore goes, (they are my favorite 1 time fee aggregator site by the way, Jeff Price is genius) you have to pay them an annual fee to host, as well as a per track/album fee which is only a one time payment, but it's still a payment, and after paying those fees they get you on all of the major distribution networks like Itunes, etc., which are going to pay you around 60% and still not give you your money for an extended amount of time. However Tunecore is a way better solution over paying an aggregator 20% of everything you sell on top of the distributor taking 30%

And lastly, Indieheaven? Can you swear in the music? There is also fee's to be paid by the way. I read the fine print. But does anyone know if they have strict policies for the artists to follow if they sign up?

I sent you an email, but since you are responding here, just a few questions-

-Can an artist be with you and Tunecore?
-Is there any exclusivity and if so, how long would it take to terminate an agreement with you?
-What is your "distribution" network?
-can the artist link to your site?

Well. I got my email response from INDSTR, it's a little disconcerting. Doesn't make me feel too confident,
I copied and pasted from my email inbox. I would like an explanation, if possible.....

"Delivery has failed to these recipients or distribution lists:

contact@indistr.com
This recipient e-mail address was not found in the recipient e-mail system. Microsoft Exchange will not try to redeliver this message for you. Please check the recipient e-mail address and try resending this message, or provide the following diagnostic text to your system administrator."

PS. I sent my email via the direct email link at the INDISTR site....

We encourage the artists on INDISTR to use as many outlets as possible for distribution. Afterall, we're here to support the independent artists in as many ways as we can. You can use as many digital retailers as you'd like with us, it doesn't matter. There is no agreement to sign with us, if you'd like to host your music for 5 hours, go ahead, it doesn't matter. The only agreement is the UMA (saying it's your music) Indistr.com - indie distribution, artist direct to public. The distribution network is what the artist makes of it. We do not work with any other distributors, however you can use our embeddables and post them all over the internet. go to MySpace.com - TRIBAL SEEDS - San Diego, California - Roots Music / Rock / Reggae - www.myspace.com/tribalseeds, they just did some setting up with the embeddables last week. The flash player turned out really well. And yes, the artist can link directly to their profile. Please let me know if you have anymore questions.

Oops......Looks like the we're having a slight problem after the launch, however if you read the blog, I give the public my e-mail address, should be working in an hour or so, but feel free to contact me Kevin@indistr.com

Sorry once again, we're already working on getting that squared away.

Thanks for your understanding,
