commonly misused words and phrases

commonly misused words:

then in place of than:

ex: I have more analog gear then you do.

there in place of their:

ex: I went over to there studio last night.

your in place of you're:

ex: I hope your doing well.

misused phrases:

Supposed to: Do not omit the d. "Suppose to" is incorrect.

Used to: Same as above. "Use to" is incorrect.

Toward: There is no s at the end of the word.

Anyway: Also has no ending s. Anyways is wrong.

Couldn't care less: Be sure to make it negative. (Not- I could care less.)

For all intents and purposes: Not- intensive purposes.

I much prefer that now than I did back then. It was always their intention to put it here, rather than there. They're crazy! You're crazy, you are! Is that your guitar that you're smashing? I suppose you think you're supposed to that, huh? I used to do it, till I bought one. It was used too. One, maybe two times before.

Anyway...they got quite angry toward me. For all intents and purposes, I couldn't give a toss! I repeat, I could not give a ****ing toss!

How'd I score???

"Polarity" inversion instead of what is usually named "phase" switching.

"Definitely" being written as "definately" is a wide spread classic.

"and" in place of "an"

That one makes me especially sad.

As a foreigner, I would say that your prepositions sometimes get me confused:

At - in - on

THe idiomatic expressions....
Walk into - walk in - come in - come along

I keep seeing "would of" in place of "would've" - drives me nuts.

George Massenberg instead of George Massenburg. VERY OFTEN.

Complimentary instead of complementary. Almost always.

Yes, ALOT is really funny Internet invention.

"or" when it should be "nor"

eg: not neve NOR studer

"none" takes the singular

eg. "none of the bands IS good" is correct
"none of the bands ARE good" is not correct. Although this is so common it is thought of as normal now. (none = not one)

conscious and conscience is around the wrong way.

interestingly "awful" used to mean "really good" (full of awe) many years ago

oh, and colour is spelt with a "U"
