Hi Steven , your drum samples are great !! this new batch is great . I love to use them as additive samples to badly recorded kits , it makes mixing a whole lot easier when I can have my own samples plus yours running in my sessions so I can audition the different sound combo's on the fly. I Bang in a ton of samples in to see what's gonna work and what isn't in my sessions and your samples are great , thanks also for the personal help you've given me to get exactly what I need , you go out of your way to help and it's very much appreciated !!!!
Peace

Wow - thats not a bad endorsement

Seriously though the new samples sound great. I haveextensively used version 1 and 1.5 in pretty much every mix I have done since I bought them. I am more of a sampling blend guy but they come in handy all the time !!!

Looking forward to buying the most recent version, cheers!!!

awesome! Great work.

question..... Looks like there is a focus on whole kits and "styles" but will there be a way to load each individual drum set (z2 and z4 snare12 for example) and choose a la carte without having to start with a whole kit preset? Hope that made sense. Basically are you able to build your own kit for all the drum elements?

absolutely Animus. You can customize your own kits from the entire Steven Slate collection, which will be even further expanded with 2.0 (dig those Metallica-like hits ey!).

Furthermore, you'll be able to tweak the hell out of how the kit is set up. A simple key switch will decide whether you want the drum to be Z1,Z2, or Z3. Then you can tweak how much Z4 ambience you want on that drum or cymbals. There is also a global Z4 to control all of the Z4 for every sample in the kit.

Wow, very impressive.

It would be great if you came up with a total solution at some point (meaning your own interface/plug-in).

Great work.

Why no formatting for BFD or DFHS?

Just out of curiousity, why not do something like Platinum Samples and make BFD versions of your products, or better yet, DFHS formated versions? Just curious.

They sound fantastic, Steven!

I love how the sample songs are so close to the originals...but just different enough. Kinda elevator music on steroids! I mean that in a good way!!!

Good work

As a current customer of the Slate drum samples, I can say that DFHS formats would be a great addition.

How do the samplers handle the randomness functions that drumagog can do? Drumagog can not only pick samples from velocity groups at random, but it can also follow the volume of the original track to whatever extent you like.

I realize that mapping an entire kit to a sampler suggests creating drum tracks from scratch, but I would LOVE to be able to use a sampler instead of drumagog for replacement like we've all been doing with the SS samples so far. That way I can create a midi note for each hit ONE TIME. After that choosing which samples to use on a song will be so much more flexible. When I've used drumagog you have to constantly adjust the sensitivity etc. and make sure each sample is placed correctly. Drumagog is not always accurate, especially when the hits are close together. Therefore it's a lot of work to replace an entire track, especially in a metal song with fast playing. If I realize later during the mix that the snare isn't working it's a huge chore to change to a different sample. DFHS kicks ass in this regard (at least for picking samples randomly for you to avoid the machine gun effect).

I know Kontakt 2 has scripts that may work for this, but I dunno about the others.

P.S. How about Battery?

P.S.S. My jaw dropped when I heard that metallica snare!

Guys, I'm really happy that you like what you hear so far. As you can see, we've been working hard over here. Keep in mind these are only beta, and I'll further enhance them over the next week or two.

That Metallica snare especially was no easy task. I even modeled the reverb on that snare as well to give it that signature sound. It took a lot of out of the box thinking but I think we've got it quite close.

Now, on to DFHS and BFD and custom interfaces...

Here is the issue. Both of these formats are live multitrack drum kits. My sample collection is NOT offered like this, because I felt it better to offer fully processed drums in different ambient environments, with an adjustable real room ambience sample PER drum. In Kontakt and other samplers, there will be simple Key SWITCHES that will allow you to customize the drum kits so that you could have, for instance, a Z3 Kick, Z1 Snare, Z2 Toms, and Z1 cymbals... all the while being able to adjust the Z4 ambience on the Z1s and Z3s. To my ears this system really works well. If you want to learn more about the Z system read the features section of the site.

So bascially, the DFHS and BFD interface would not work well with my customized system. This is why we DO plan to make our own interface. But this takes time and careful coding and planning. But I didn't want people to wait to use these drums in kit form, and given the sophistication of many of the software samplers and some crafty mapping, things are sounding awesome. As you can hear from the demos, the hits are mapped in a round robin so no hit is ever heard twice in a row.

As for TD-10 and TD-20, we'll be looking into that as well.

At this point I would entertain some ideas for modeled kits, although we already have 12 in the works that should cover a lot of ground, not to mention the tons of other drums in our virtual drum "locker" that you can customize into your own kits. Overall, I'm very happy with how things are going, I just hope I don't get mauled by a pack of angry drummers. See you all at AES.

The update will be free for all original 1.0 customers (purchased before August 17th). For everyone else, there is a fair upgrade price. It'll be worth it.

quick update here... so I take back what I said before about the BFD environment not being able to work with our system. At AES I checked it out and the BFD2 system is quite amazing and could possibley be a great platform for our drumkits... thats all I can say as of now. So those hoping to get SIGNATURE DRUM KITS in BFD, let me know.

Hi Joel

Can you clarify the above. People who brought it longer ago get the free update but those who purchased it after the V2 rumours surfaced don't ?

Seems a little counter intuitive. Or should I say opposite of what most companies do.
