Just checking in with some updates on the upcoming 2.5 update which will introduce a Standalone VSTi version, a BFD2 version, a Vdrums and eDrum version, NRG Recording room samples, and improved Midi performance. Also more velocites, more hits, same fat and punchy and 3D drums, same variety of 36 drumkits, and same great taste.

Check out the enhancements with two demos of the DEFTONES kit as played on VDrums by drummer and midi programmer Dan Kirk:

www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo3/KirkTone1.mp3

check out the snare action:
www.stevenslatedrums.com/demo3/KirkTone2.mp3

all kits will also have the raw and natrual NRG room A samples too

thanks Jake. Our new 2.5 update will be HUGE, we'd call it 3.0 but we've already made the boxes

It will include all new room samples from the famous NRG RECORDING room A, one of the very best drum rooms I've ever heard. It will be unprocessed so you can compress and eq to your liking, a great compliment to the PREPROCESSED room sounds that ship with the current collection. The standalone version will also have some of the very best plug and play VDrums presets for all current Roland VDrum products (from TD3 to pro TD20) as well as presets for other eDrum systems.

There will also now be a standalone VSTi RTAS plugin that ships with the collection with custom graphics and features catered towards the unique Steven Slate Drums system.

However, BFD users will be happy to hear that we will ALSO have a BFD2 expansion pack with the same great features and two room sounds, but with the ability to use the drums in the amazing BFD2 environment that FXPansion has so carefully crafted over the years.

Whats more is the each midi system (standalone or BFD2) will include Drumagog GOG files and raw wav files to use for drum replacement. There will also be a new Paiste cymbal pack to add to the already hefty Zildian/Sabian pack, with ultra detailed hi hats that play and sound like none you've heard yet.

More demos coming soon. But eDrummers, midi programmers, and anyone who loves amazing sounding drums, start getting excited.

Hey Steven, really nice work you are doing

One question, how do I use the samples from 2.0 in Contact?

Purusha, once you get 2.0, there are presets drumkits that will work flawlessly in Kontakt 2 or 3.

We are quite excited about the new updates... MORE DEMOS SOON.

2 rock mixes with some slate samples helping out the natrual drums

rock/pop band
2 songs are in the player, check it out and let me know what you think these songs are completed and mastered by the wonderful brad brad blackwood (highly recommend him for mastering.
(mixed,produced,engineered by me)
i blended ... kick 1, maple toms and birch blended, snare 10 Z2 and 8 z2 rooms blended in with my snare and my triggers of the drum set. they were a great help as my room is pretty dead and i wanted some natural reverb and added balls on the drums.
as always steven slate helps out my dead drum room! with his wonderful samples, btw bro congrats on getting picked by sweetwater i caught your product in thier huge mag. thanks for putting out a killer product i highly recommend it to everyone i know and yes i actually use them! they arent just another folder to look at on my computer

any questions feel free to leave a reply and i will do my best to answer, thanks guys!

just loading in SSD, and although I see all of the samples in my folder in the finder, drumagog isn't recognizing about half of them.

I took the contents of V1 and V2 and combined them in a folder called SSD Snares (for example)... is it possible that Drumagog can't see files if there are too many in the folder?

I've restarted Logic and the computer, have copied the files from the DVDs 3 times, and have reassigned my gog folder...

Any ideas?

Drumagoag doesn't like all those files in one folder. You gotta just put the SSD GOG folders in the GOG FILES just as they are... in the various KICK, SNARE, and TOM folders. Then you'll be all set.

Everyone who has ordered SSD 2.0 as of August 1st gets a free upgrade to the amazing SSD 2.5 NRG EDITION...

new additions to 2.5:

-raw NRG RECORDING room samples from one of the very best drum rooms in the world

-new Paiste Cymbal pack, featuring some of the very best samples cymbals (all cymbals recorded to 2inch)

-new standalone Midi Player with tons of features and easy tweaking

-OPTIONAL BFD2 expansion pack (instead of standalone player)

-the very best VDrum and EDrum support

-new midi grooves played by top drummers

-new STEELY DAN modeled signature kit

-three new ELITE snares and kicks

-more stuff coming!

Did you abandon your drumagog tutorial? I can't seem to find any info about it on your site any longer.

Seeing as SSD 2.5 is right around the corner (Second week of October?), I figured we should get pumped up about this release. It will probably warrant a new thread so we'll have to bid a fond farewell to this one. I'll get some samples up as soon I get my hands on the new stuff. In the meantime, here a few tunes finished this week with SSD v2.0. The first two songs are written by Mark Moore (ATFallen) and the string arrangements by me. We recorded strings at Dark Horse Recording in Nashville (Franklin). Mark uses SSDs exclusively.

I may post some of his harder stuff too...

(make sure you make it to the end of this one- glorious)

These two are my songs with the Dark Horse strings and SSDs:

holy smokes!

these tunes and mixes are crazy good. please spill the beans about which of the Slate kits were used. It kinda sounds like on the first one, you are using the snare hards as the top velocity, so no rimshots? Whatever you did, it really fits well in the mix.

I've been programming 100% with Slate 2.0 and the first thing I get asked about my mixes is "where did you do your drums?". I use both the Z4 room samples and then I send the whole kit to Altiverb with a small room sample and no one can tell that it is sampled drums. SSDs and my Blue Skys are my two best studio investments EVER.

Steven is there a release date for 2.5? I couldn't find one on your site.

Thanks, Junk. On my two tunes I'm pretty sure they'd both be kick10- my preferred kick. I'd have to check on the snares- most likely a combination of two SSD snares. I don't know which pieces Mark uses- he has a custom SSD kit he made that he uses on most of his stuff.

So, I don't have the guts to start a new SSD V2.5 thread, nor do I think it's my place... so if it's alright I'll start to shed some 2.5 love on this thread.

This is:

New Snare 7, New GreenKick, and the new Paiste 16 and 18 inch cymbals.

I'm riding the NRG room fader about every 4 bars so you can hear it normal, then loud, then quiet, then normal again.

The NRG room is glorious. It adds so much depth without getting messy. Very, very inspiring. Also the hats and snare play much better velocity-wise; they're much more natural to play. A quick ditty:

http://www.vitaetmusica.com/outgoing/NRGFader.mp3

I should add that this is the kit coming out of kontakt without further processing besides the brickwall limiter on the master buss.

More to come...

Thanks, the songs are part of a new production music library that I'm creating. For use in commercials, trailers, promos, tv/film programming, etc.

The piano is NI Akoustik Piano through a UAD 1176. I believe it's the upright.

Seriously. I don't work for SSD, but I certainly recommend them to everyone who wants real deal drum sounds in their productions. Also, everyone who's ordered SSD V2.0/2.1 since August 1st, 2008 gets a free upgrade to V2.5... so, maybe now's the time since there's nothing to gain by waiting.

I'll put up more stuff as I get time.

Here are two examples utilizing the Funky Midi file I put in the MIDI section of the SSD Forum Steven Slate Drums • View topic - Funkalicious and Versatile . One is the NRG Room, one is the Slate Room. They go in 2 bar sections. 2 no room, 2 room at -6db, 2 room at 0db, and 2 room at +6db. These are automated moves on the room faders in Cubase. The NRG Room samples have no processing by Steven- they have been left raw without compression or eq. The Slate Room samples are processed by Steven. The following examples come out of Kontakt without any tweaking or anything on the master buss:
