For the kit inspired by Rage Against the Machine, I'm using their original album which to me has by far the best drum sound, anyone wanna debate that?

I'll check those out. Honestly, I don't spend enough time auditioning sounds- I usually find something usable within the first 3 or 4 tries and just go with it.

Thinking of having access to drums that sound like RATM's self titled album makes me get all shaky and hyper. It's kinda like the pre-game dowers without any of the side effects.

Steven, I know you gotta be feeling the crush, but hang in there and know that whatever you deliver is going to be well received and loved by all who use it. Also, and I'll just say it right here in the open, the fact that you're giving this upgrade for free to those who ordered 1.0 is extremely generous, and I, for one, feel a little awkward about it. The price for 1.0/update to EM1.5 was already ridiculously low, but now this is a little far. So, just speaking for me, and everyone else can just forget they read this if they like, I think you should at least set up a paypal account where we can show you some love.

Carry on, sir.

I will tell you that the drums I like the most from RATM are from the song "People of the Sun", from Evil Empire. I love that sound....especially when the drums first come in...DAMN!

I must admit that I would love an Our Lady Peace kit. Now I realize that they are not super popular in the states (HUGE in Canada however) therefore the effort would not be worth it, but I LOVE the kit on "Is anybody home" From Happiness is a fish you can't catch.

I have to say, I would love to have more PUNCHY kicks. The kind that kick you in the chest. Coheed and Cambrias "good Apollo" has some nice punchy kicks like this. They also have a killer dry punchy tight snare on "Welcome Home" and "final cut".

I love the kicks thus far but many seem a little too big and deep for some of my projects (odd I know :)

Some nice old thuddy dry sounds from the 70's would be great. Dry and "wooley" if that makes sense :)

I use your samples on almost every project. I have waited for so long for these kinds of samples. Thank You!!

Greenday, American Idiot = Drum Sound Nirvana

If you could guys could try approximating the drum sounds on Greenday's American idiot I think many would be impressed

The drum sounds on that album are the best I have heard in LOOOOONG time and I am not a Greenday fan (good album though)

Cheers!!

Hey Steven,

Great job on the sound samples. Very impressive!

Here's another vote for Green Day, American Idiot or Dookie.

Some others include:

Tom Petty Wildflowers "It's Good to be King".

and lastly:

Third Eye Blind: "How's It Gong to Be".

These last 2 are just amazing. They're both on Itunes if you're interested.

Thanks!

I just walked into the studio and there is a huge new rack full of API eqs, three more distressors, some tubetech pultecs, some dbx 160 VUs, a DPA 1073, and then three unbranded DIY looking boxes, two are compressors and one is an eq. Oh and I just noticed a 480 behind the console, I assume to model some of the reverb stuff, dunno. So it looks like Steven is about ready to do some serious tweaking. I'm sure there will be more then enough model kits to keep people happy. Keep in mind besides the model kits, all of the huge sound Elite Mixer stuff will be mapped out in various kits in various styles, its going to be awesome. Now someone convince me to not steal this rack of drool worthy gear and start my own studio.

Check out Steven's hits with their Z4 ambience mixed by Jeff Juliano.. in this JAMES BLUNT live concert:

Hey Bang! hope your holding up well, especially with all these suggestions being fired around. Im sorry but i couldnt resist throwing another one out there...

I know your gonna love the crack off of this one, another piece of awesome work by the lovely Mr Jay Baumgardner
Smooth criminal... Alien ant Farm
YouTube - Alien Ant Farm - Smooth Criminal: MTV Mask Version

To this day im still in love with that snare sound and the way it rides that song, plus the toms at 1:30 are just so full on modern and musical sounding.

Maybe you have something similar in the collection already?

I really like that snare as well. I'll have to ask Jay if he can give me some more info on what snare was used etc., but I bet the free snare19 with its Z4 ambience can get pretty close. I've listened to many of the suggestions and I can assure you all will be happy with the 2.0 modeled kits, and YES to the question if all the Elite Mixer samps will be included in kit form.

And Vitae, that was a very kind gesture of you and I really appreciate it. However, I find it rewarding to give the initial clientele who supported the product from the start a nice free ride through the life of the software. Its the least I could do.

It's a free ride, but it's like a free ride to the new house you bought me. I just can't shake these feelings of guilt. I will find a way to repay you.

I hope the good juju comes back to you a thousand times over.

I do have two new demos almost done of two new model kits...

having problems with Dream Theater.. my reference is the song 6:00.. and I hate the drum sound. The snare has the most awful reverb on it. Is there another reference song, perhaps from another album, where the drums sound good?

Vitae when you get that new house, just invite me over for drinks and we'll call it a deal!

Melvin's "Stoner Witch" album has a killer drum sound and there are some parts where you can hear the kit playing alone.

yes i would not choose Awake to get drum samples off of. really liking a couple of the tracks from the new album, Systematic Chaos, for drum samples.

Awesome. Im a fan of Mike's (AAFs drummer) he has a lovely touch to his playing. Cool guy and was always very willing to share info on his gear and what he used.

I believe on the recording of smooth criminal he used a dw copper shelled snare. I know copper... its not that common but it does have unbelievable bite and is slightly dryer than brass. He went for a shorter depth also, because he wanted to project more of a crack. He gave this info to Modern Drummer mag back when the track was a hit.
On the engineering side, i think audix/audio technics mics was all that was mentioned, but Jay's ambience on that snare is just perfect.

Two more examples of that snare I really want-

Off of Seether's new album Finding Beauty In Negative Spaces:

Like Suicide
Breakdown

These are like that Our Lady Peace snare on Somewhere Out There from Gravity.

I've never found a sample that sounds like this- the Seether snare better exemplifies the snare sound than any tracks I've listed so far. So deep, "woody" and satisfying.

this looks cool

hey, Bang. This looks like something i will order. I talked it over with some friends and they thought that a 70's David Bowie style kit would be very cool...

I guess i'm just wondering how many kits/artist's sounds you plan to add in the future. this looks awesome! How much?!...and when can i buy?

Bang,

The last few pages of questions, answers, and comments have me confused about something. Pardon my ignorance here but are you actually sampling the sounds from these records are just doing your best to re-create them from scratch in your studio?

Just curious.

No no no, I am recreating the sounds... not using ANYTHING from the actual recordings at all.

I've chosen the final 12 drumkits to be on the first release of 2.0, and keep in mind besides those 12 there are TONS of other great sounding kits made from the Elite samples that are destined to become classic sounds in their own right. As time goes on, I will be adding NEW kits in further versions. I think everyone will be more then happy with the selections, and I'll be posting demos soon.
