Yes, *bump*.

Any plans for a mono version of "The Rooster"? It just looks like it would make a great single channel unit to me. Stereo is cool though, just asking.

it's time DISTORRRRRRTION.

by the way do you know if the transformers will be availables for the units that ship in febrary. i need mine by the last week of febrary.
OK, thanks for the bump!
We're trying to get the transformer option done in time for the Rooster relase in mid Feb. Vic is going to try the transformer that is used on the Culture Vulture Mastering.

Oh Yeah! It absolutley does clean alright. Vic is a stickler for making things as clean, low noise, low distrotion, max headroom, low phase shift as possible........then it's up to you to keep it that way, or dial in a little or a lot of Atittude.

No plans right now, but we have discussed mono things in the past, I wouldn't rule out some kinda mono device in the future though.

Hi Kevlar,

Is that pound, euro, or dollars ?

about the layout i'm a bit disapointed, i was prefering the first one for those reasons :

- the blue button of the LPF is off excess in the color scheme, and is redundant with the zero position off the bass cut (i think it's related to the bass cut) i would have prefered a hi pass filter when you use lots of distortion and put the bass cut out off the circuit when set to zero or an on off for the eq, or on off of the distotion circuit...

- i was preferring the technical approach to explain to the customer that you gain distortion by lessening the feedback than the word attitude wich do not evoke something related to distortion for me. i think this gives the gear a less professional feel. + what does this mean, when you want it clean then your attitude is just of 1, e.

- the logo is not well integrated in the layout, too big, it's cluttering the power section, and i prefer the sobriety off the thermionic culture line of gear without logo.

but this is only me, and will not alter the sound so i will be happy to live with it anyway.

Hey Kevlar. How would you compare/contrast the rooster and the earlybird sonically?

The price of £150.00 is Pounds Sterling.

Let me explain some things about the Rooster because I think you have wrongly assumed some points about how the EQ is working etc. BTW, all the coloured plastic sleeves on the toggle switches can be removed, or swapped around if you don't like them, underneath they are metal.

The LPF switch, (low pass filter) which will allow as it suggests, to pass low frequencies but will filter high frequencies (exact frequency etc to be determined by designer Vic Kearny ), this is completely independent of any other EQ control and is NOT related to the Bass Cut control what so ever. This will be very useful to tame the top end if a lot of distortion is dialled in.

Due to the complicated nature of this EQ design, Vic unfortunately can't include an EQ bypass which is a shame, but not the end of the world. I know some of you will think "how hard can it be to fit a EQ bypass" ? Well, it is on this circuit, if you really want to know why, I'll get Vic to try and explain, but take our word for it, it's a bitch!

With regard to the formally labelled 'Feedback' control Vs the newly named 'Attitude' control. We disagree, although 'Feedback' is the correct term to use this doesn't describe what the end result really sounds like, not many peple would know what Feedback means in this context. OK, we're having a little bit of fun here by calling it Attitude, but I think it's easier to relate to what this control does than calling it Feedback. We also wanted to aviod using the word Feedback as our very good friend Wade at Chandler uses this on his Germanium series, although of course he can't claim exclusivity to the word Feedback, we wanted to avoid this.

We've had a positive response ( I nearly said good feedback! Ha!) to the Rooster logo, it's all a personal choice of course.

I honestly can't say right now as I've not done that test. When we have final versions of the Rooster that's the first thing we'll do.

Well put Kevlar, my mistake, i still after so many years in audio engineering don't read twice for HPF and LPF even though i will hardly miss it when heard , so this is actually the fonction i was after in my post and i'm glad they implemented it. big up
no offense on the attitude term, it's just that i feel better knowing what's going on under the hood.
i noticed you can pull off the plastic on the switches, i will have fun playing with the position of them e.
The logo is fine, i like it too, just that it change the overall feel of the gear mostly because of the size of it, that was my main complaint.

no really Vic came out with a wonderfull machine, a modern classic, and i can't wait till it ships.

I'm the same, I sometimes have to stop and think which way round LPF & HPF is, rather like some people can't remeber what's left & right! I know it when I hear it though too. Glad these functions are what you wanted, that's a relief.

Yes, the plastic sleeves come off, so it'll be like Swatch. Should we offer a whole spectrum of coloured sleeves for personal customisation! Joking, pls don't anyone write in asking for Tuscan Terracotta colored ones.

Thanks for the vote of confidence, I think we have a real hit on our hands.

The Rooster will be shipping next week, 21st March. It's gone down well at the Messe , it's a really versatile pre and the attitude control offers a great range of colour.

This thing is amazing and very versatile. Ive been bussing all of my electronic drums out through it. here is a little cheesy beat I did to show just how much this thing can do for your drums. I boosted a bit of 4k which actually sounds like a lot but isnt. dialed in a little feedback (attitude set on 3 switch to pentode). 1st one is ITB no rooster 2nd is with rooster

Why not bypass your dealer and telephone Unity Audio in the UK (thermionic distributor) - they're top chaps and very friendly.
