el Diablo Mercenary Edition available right now online

through here Soundwave Research Laboratories / Crowley and Tripp Microphones :: Ribbon Microphones

The no haggle price in the US is $2750 - everyone gets the same deal, just like Saturn used to do before GM ruined it. No "list" price in the US. Outside the US, check with your dealer for price and availability.

Also available through our other dealers, of course.

Sorry, should have been more specific.
I'm only referring to the colour choice; that for me, is a little tacky.
Just personal taste, that's all.
That's not to say I wouldn't check it out.
Can't judge a book by it's cover,...right?.....peace?

Yeah...its a little 'bitchin'' looking, isn't it?
It is made of Roswellite TM, though.

Looks like it should cost $20 tops. It is probably the ugliest mic I've ever seen.

Probably sounds fantatic though so that shouldn't matter!

Cosmetics do matter. Food that looks better will have its testers say it tastes better, even if it doesn't.

So I can imagine a prettier looking microphone will be thought to sound better and possibly even elicit a superior performance than an ugly microphone. A vintage looking microphone will be said to have more character.

A double-blind test of these factors would have to hide the microphone from the player as well as the listener from what microphone was being played back.

All that said, I don't think this microphone is all that ugly. I think the photography and web design for it is truly miserable. The mic itself might be OK in context.

It looks like it should come with a poseable Fletcher action figure.

Who the frak cares what it looks like? The Fairchild is the single ugliest piece of rack gear ever, and it goes for $30K. Why? Because it works. Frankly, I could give a shit if it was painted bright pink and had a blue LED blinking on the top, as long as it did what it says it will do.

You don't have a prissy-ass primadonna forced to stick her face up against a Fairchild.

Frak? Somebody's been watching too much BG...

To each his own, I think Fairchilds are beautiful!

The CT gear/logo has a bit of an alien vibe already, and roswellite kinda fits with that - but you throw in the gold/yellow ME wanna-be biker thing, and it just doesn't work for me. I don't think the ME logo is this big and obtrusive on the other gear.

Hey, at least you can tell that prissy-ass primadonna that she's (he's) singing into a 24k gold plated headgrille...

"man, there's no way i'd record anything with that thing. there's no way something that hideous could possibly SOUND good."

i emphasize sound, because isn't that what really matters? i understand the whole aesthetically pleasing nature of cool looking mics and whatnot, but let the quality of what comes out the other end speak for itself.

i think it looks rad as hell, and very unique, and i've really been enjoying reading the C&T blog's regarding its progress (among other interesting info.). excellent stuff.

Ugly, expensive, hi-tech materials inside.
Should be sounding really good to justify all that
