Fairlight's new Xynergi controller

Xynergi

Originating from the Greek word sunergia, meaning "cooperation," and also sunergos, meaning "working together")
It is the combined working together of two or more parts of a system so that the combined effect is
greater than the sum of the efforts of the parts.

We are introducing the Xynergi Controller, the first truly ‘application aware’ controller. In essence, Xynergi harnesses
the power of the CC-1 card to deliver one of the world’s most powerful desktop media production centre.

The Xynergi controller features a unique implementation of self-labelling key switches which are able to display
full colour images, animated icons or text to provide intelligent control over the entire recording, editing and mixing process.
In addition, the controller can support any type of language or icon driven menu structure with an ‘on-demand’ QWERTY keyboard
for routine naming tasks and immediate access to Windows applications.The controller also features eight touch sensitive
rotary controllers and multiple soft keys arranged around a high–res color control zone known as the “pad”.

I wasn't sure to begin with but this could be a brilliant innovation.
Any idea of pricing.

I know Fairlight aren't entry level but it would be a shame for this to fail due to the price point being out of the range that 'normal' studio owners can justify.

Looking forward to finding out more.

It seems to be Fairlight's answer to Euphonix' MC Controller. Very well done!

But, where in the f**k are the faders??????

Hell, if Fairlight is ever going to get traction in audio world, they got to start understanding what we want....and, WE WANT FADERS!

Guess I'll jump on to their site and see if they address this.

All this talk from Euphonix and Digi on a lower cost controller has obviously clouded my vision of this thing.

If we're talking this controller AND the 12-ch sidecar, it's going to be major $$$$.

Fader Options

1 ) Fairlight Fader Sidecar
Each Xynergi system can be specified with up to two sidecars
with twelve faders each. Each sidecar features touch sensitive motorised
faders, encoders and switches, fader bank switches, channel status
LEDs, OLED displays and Joystick surround panner.



Also ...

2) Third Party Fader option
All Xynergi systems will support a single external MIDI device
implementing the HUI MIDI mapping protocol. The only
currently supported model is Mackie’s Control Extender.
This will give you the option to purchase and use the
Mackie 8 fader sidecar with the Xynergi system.

For those of you in Europe please be informed that
the full Xynergi System with CC-1 will be present for
"hands on" viewing at the IBC Exhibition, Amsterdam
7 - 11 September 2007.

question: i have 3 emagic "logic control xt's", the precursor of the 'universal' mackie control, and they run on midi, not usb. would they be useable with this device, or would i have to update some firmware or get usb units to be compatible?

depending on the price and compatibility with all the software out there, this could be a huge hit for fairlight.

The self-labelling keyswitches are very cool - as is the application-aware aspect of the interface. It changes look and feel based on what you are doing at the time - very clever.

and certainly not new - not to piss on the parade, the MC does some of that. So the marketing as 'first ever' is a little off...although I suppose it is the first ever full qwerty keyboard thats functioning with these switches.

looks cool though. The real question is price - and that'll be interesting after the 'low cost euphonix' thread - those SmartSwitches are not cheap at all. They seem smaller than the MC switches...maybe a newer model/manufacturer?

Yup and Yup. Euphonix already did this, and price will be the key factor.
I like the way Fairlight added the Eventide Soft Key functionality to the screen. Much more reliable than a touch screen.
