| KEL Audio HM-2d "Dynamic Flavored" Condenser Mic KEL Audio has announced the HM-2d, an affordable large diaphragm condenser mic voiced in the tradition of a high quality dynamic mic. The HM-2d features a specially tuned capsule and circuit to produce a frequency response that varies only about 2 dB over most of its range, producing a tight, full, sonic profile free of the peaks and thin sound associated with many budget condenser mics and popular dynamic sound reinforcement mics. "The HM-2d really has the sort of mojo that is absent from other affordable condenser mics. It sounds a lot more like some of the classic large diaphragm dynamic mics popular in broadcasting, but with far higher output," says Kelly Dueck of Kel Audio. "You can record quiet sources with them and still get that meaty sound. At the same time you don't have the transformer loading effects common with various moving coil and ribbon mics that can drastically alter the sound from one pre to the next." The HM-2d is recommended for rock and roots vocals, guitar amps, piano, outside kick drums, harmonica, horns and more. "Basically use it anywhere you want more of an old-school vibe without the mud of some of the lower priced ribbon mics currently flooding the market," says Dueck. The HM-2d will ship early September and will be available direct from http://www.kelaudio.com for $149 USD including shipping. A pre-order price of $129 will be offered until September 30th. For more information contact Kelly Dueck at kelaudio@kelaudio.com or Ph:204-783-0215

| I listened to the sound clips. It sounds intriguing, but I am skeptical. Dynamics and condensers are different and that is good. A condenser can't physically do what a dynamic does and vice versa. It may be a great mic for some applications, but I wouldn't look at it for anything else but that.

I agree but for $129... I know I've wasted a lot more than that on other things before. | |
