NEW! The GIK D1 Diffuser

Talk to any acoustics or audio pro and they will tell you that diffusion is the final piece that can turn a good sounding room into a great one if used properly. Giving a sense of spaciousness to your music (or recording room) by breaking up that zingy, slap echo in a room without deadening it too much.

GIK Acoustics is proud to introduce our newest product – the D1
diffusor. The D1 is a new design which combines the best of a standard QRD along with a unique curved profile to extend the useful frequency range far beyond a standard diffusor of this type and size.

The D1 is made from strong, lightweight ABS and is paintable to match your
room’s color scheme.

*Fully tested
*Out performing diffusion costing 4 times as much
*Paintable
*Super cool looking
*Easy to mount
*Available colors:
- White available now.
- Black (please note black D1 Diffusors will begin shipping August 16th).

For more information or to discuss how diffusion may fit into your room
design,
contact us at: glenn.k@gikacoustics.com
D1 product info: GIK ACOUSTICS

could these be used for diffusing light as well?

i.e. with a light source (eg florescent tube) behind them?

Great product BTW - how much to ship, say 4 pair, to the UK?

No these are only going to diffuse the sound in your room.

If you would please email your full address to glenn.k@gikacoustics.com and I can work on a shipping quote for you.

a humble suggestion:

might be useful and helpful to have pic's/drawings of real-world application, where and how they're used in a studio on the website.

Question

Yo mate,

Say, can these diffusors be ceiling mounted? either flat-on (glue?) or suspended 1-2inch off the ceiling ??

I'm not ready for an immediate purchase because I'm still considering building a cloud instead, for ceiling treatment (ceiling height abt 8.5ft, surface area abt 17 x 14 feet), and I guess probably building a cloud will still be more cost efficient.. but if you can, do let me know how much it would cost to ship these to me in Singapore (or do you have a Singapore rep now?)

There are already plenty of acoustic absorping panels (DIY) on the walls, but my ceiling is still bare.

If you would prefer a reply by email, please use my other email address :

charles [at] lisonic [dot] com

because my current work email server is down..

Also, btw, the "Product Info" link in your website is not working, it goes to a "#" but doesnt go to the product pages..

Thanks!
Regards,
[Charles]

When you say cloud do you mean over the mix spot? If so absorption in that area is going to work better. The best thing to use is 2" or 4" panels spaced down from the ceiling equal distance of panel thickness.

Yes the diffuser can be mounted on the ceiling with the 2 brackets we provide. I guess you could glue it but might make one heck of a mess when removing.

As far as the website I am aware of this and I think only happens when someone is using foxfire. Sorry about that, hope to have it fixed REALLY SOON!!

Thanks for the info.

Yup, its the "clouds" above mix position you see in "most studios". after making the 18 (!!) absorption panels in my mix room, and 12 in my recording booth, I got tired. Besides, I've returned all construction equipment, plus there is no workshop for me to DIY these any more, so I am considering getting "ready made clouds"

Sorry to hijack this thread :)

But, I am still interested to know, do you have rep or distributors in my country? (and NO, SINGAPORE IS NOT IN CHINA )

Then you do not really want diffusion there you want absorption. Something like our GIK 242 or 244 would work much better.
If you would like drop me a email and I could get a quote for shipping for you. Just a little warning, IT AIN'T CHEAP to ship to singapore. If a small quanity (1 box) can cost more then the product. But if you would like drop me a line and I can get it quoted for you.

Slightly off the topic, but the manufacturer is worth the bump ....

Tritrap question, If I want to mount these at the ceiling in the corners, what mounting devices ship with them? Also, how well will two do in a 14'x17' room?

The Tri Trap is designed to be placed in a wall to wall corner and stacked. You can lay them horizontally on the floor/wall corner, but to answer your question, I have had customers use L brackets to hold them up in a ceiling to wall corner.
As far as how many, 2 is really just a start. Most rooms we have worked with end up with 4 - 10, just depending on the room itself. If you do plan on going with our product I would strongly recommend sending me an email with a layout (pictures always help) to come up with the best plan for your room.

Yes, Actually, I realised that shipping such stuffs is not cheap.

Previously, I wanted a swivel monitor arm that can support three monitors (comptuer monitor), and after placing the online order, I realised that the shipping costs almost as much as the arm itself !! (because of weight and dimension)

I think my only solution now is really to build a cloud (either myself, or get carpenters..) ..

Thanks for the time !!

Sound America?? Cairo ?? NO !!!!!!

If it is a control room they are best in the back area. But if you do plan on buying some I would HIGHLY recommend sending us a layout of your room so we can give you proper advise on placement. Not all rooms should be treated the same.

Hey Glenn, in a small room (bedroom of course) would you recommend a 2" or 4" trap above the mix position, or does it really matter?

4" will provide a more bass control, but if you already have PROPER bass trapping in the room then go with the 2". They are lighter and won't take up as much room. Oh and you will save a couple bucks to boot.

Just a side note:
If you take a look at our aborption report GIK ACOUSTICS you will see that the 4" does do pretty well when on the wall, but straddling corners is really the way to go.

I have 4 bass traps straddling my walls right now and traps to my left and right for first reflections. I was actually asking because I was told that reflections come from the ceiling just as much, so I'm thinking of throwing a third up above my head.

That is a great idea, but you may want to put more then one. Here is a picture over a drum set so you can get a idea on how they would hang. This is Jon Pousette-Dart's room we did. BTW really great guy.
