Question New AKAI MPC

Has anyone heard anything about an updated version of the akai MPC 4000 coming soon(maybe called something else)? Since the major production delay with the 4000's I was just wondering if any rumors have been floating around.

akai in general has been plaugued with managment problems since before numark took over...now they no longer have their own technical staff, and most of the engineers who helped design some of their brilliant products are no longer with the company.

i called to ask about tech support for my (now legacy) DPS24-Mk1, the person on the phone had never even heard of the product

There is some talk about Roger Linn ( the guy who designed the original MPC) teaming up with the guy who makes the evolver synths to make a drum machine (possibly called the boomchik) sometime in the next year or so. That looks a lot more interesting to me than an MPC.

That's old news. There was a thread about this awhile ago with pics of the prototype.

More like pics of a poster of a computer mock-up of a currently imaginary product.

I emailed akai and they said they are always developing and upgrading products. I asked if the MPC 4000 was discontinued and he said it was still available. He also said he could not give me any info on what the next generation would be due to trade secrets. Then I saw guitar center is selling what they are claiming to be the last 11 MPC 4000's customized by bruce forat. Anyone else heard anymore info. Will something be coming out to compete with the MV 8800??
