I'm a little confused. Does the MOTU PCIe-424 provide AES/EBU signal out of the computer? I always thought the MOTU PCI cards were meant to interface with the MOTU hardware, like the 24I/O.

Their website doesn't make this obvious to a non-MOTU user.

Thanks.

Sorry, I'll explain.

I have been using an HD192 (which does have AES I/O) clocked to a Lavry Blue for the last 4 or 5 years.

I don't really want to keep the HD192 and I don't have the PCIe-424 card, which I need if I want to use the HD192 with my new MacPro.

But I can't wait any longer. So I'll picking up the PCIe-424 and sticking with the HD192 / Lavry set up for the next year or so.

Also, you could get the 2408 and connect the ADAT I/O to a Mytek 8x192 or the forthcoming Cranesong Egret for example.

So any new news on this AES16e mess?

Honestly, I am a pretty mellow guy for he most part but this is getting me a little frustrated.

Buying an old card now seems like a waste of money because it is going to be worthless in a few months (or years at this rate). I have to go with Lynx because of my cables and such....

Basicly I need the new AES16e card, my back is against the wall and I am getting a little pissed.

It's all cool but this is really holding up my UA2192 that I bought.... oh 6 months ago now. I would like to use it some day.

the sun is the same in a relative way.......

I just saw a used AES 16 for $325 free shipping on ebay.
It won't be worthless when the AES16e comes out - there will still be someone out there who will see paying less than half the price for a 16 track as a bargain. Plus there are probably many people out there who can't afford to upgrade to a modern motherboard with pcie slots. I bet we will still be able to get $275 directly after the AES16e comes out. How much money are you losing by waiting?

Yes it does tick me off a bit....

I forgot to add that I would have to ditch one of my UAD cards because I am out of PCI slots (or convert it to a PCIe which is also a PITA).

It just sucks because I would really like to get back to work.

Michael,

Have you also thought about turning over to firewire.
Taking a LT-FW card into the Lynx will keep you from longer waiting.
I am considering this possebility.
Allthough my first choise is also the PCIe.

greetz,

Paul

Hey Paul

Thanks. I actually looked into that but here in my issue.

I have a Apogee AD-16x and a DA-16x and now a UA2192. I use Samp 8.3, I don't think I can use the Apogee's with firewire and the UA2192 with the AES16 at the same time.

Does anyone know if that is really the case? If I could I would be all set and I could tell Lynx to shove it (which is about where I stand on the issue right now anyway).

Thanks again Paul.

I haven't used X-series with firewire but I know on symphony and PTHD you get 16 channels of digital routing via AES/ADAT. I don't see why you wouldn't be able to take advantage of this as well via firewire but there may be a limit on how many channels you can transmit especially at >48kHz. Best bet would be phone Apogee, always great tech support and I'm sure they would be more than happy to sell you some new X-firewire cards .

Actually I just sent them an email about this a minute ago. I can't get a straight answer from the Samplitude forum, at least not one that I know I can count on so I figured I would go straight to the horses mouth.

Thanks

Since Lynx has announced this product prematurely it would behoove them to set up an email list to inform us as to when this product will genuinely be available. This sign-up provision should be available on their site. I looked and didn't find it.

This particular form of word-of-mouth is just ridiculous.

Seeing how there are a lot of AES-16 users on this thread, I hope no one minds if I go off topic a bit and ask a question? Did anyone have any problems with recording high track counts @ 96k using two PCI versions of this card? I know that hard drive performance has more to do with it than the card, but did anyone have any problems with 32 I/O? If so what DAW were you using? Mac/PC?

I am getting there for sure.... unfortunately they have me over a barrel, it would cost me more to go in another direction.....

I sent them an email and this is what I got back on the 4th

Mike,

We are working on the last few details and hope
to begin shipping the AES16e
in about 10 days.

Thanks,

Lynx Sales
If theymean "days" as in "work days" then according to this they should start shipping on the 18th. If "days" includes weekends then obviously sooner, like the end of next week.

We'll see but I am not holding my breath.

And if they did release it with problems, people would be bitching about how they shouldnt have released it unitil the bugs have been worked out.

Absolutely true but that does not mean they didn't make mistakes.

What they should have done is....

1) Not talk about a product before they are ready to sell it

2) Don't continually make and then miss release dates

3) Not accept money for a product that isn't ready for prime time

4) Don't wait to start R&D on a product while another product is close to being or is already out of date (UA should take a little look at this one as well) PCIe has been around for how long now?

April 15th? I wish I didn't base my new studio around getting these. If they miss this deadline I'm afraid I may have 4xAurora 16's for sale.

Maybe it`s time we demote Lynx from GS-legend status and kill the myth.

( You know , the GS-legend that "Lynx are just at good as Apogee , only less colored , at a third of the price." )

Thumbs down!

I think that this message can be explained in two ways.
1) finally a date that doesn't mean a delay of again some months
2) just a little bit disapointing that they still can't fix it in time
I wants wrote that I can understand that such manufacturers want the best product.
And on the on the hand they do read GS as well and must understand that a lot of potential customers are waiting for this card.
Last year I posted a thread in which I had the question if manufacturers do these things on purpose just to get pre orders.
Michael has said this too that without having a true release date it ain't worth to talk about or pronounce a release.
It gives me some time to figure out what sound will suit me more.
Will it be the Aurora, Alpha link or a more expensive Apogee solution.
Let's hope it will be the 15 th......Good luck Lynx

Greetz,

Paul

Supposely RME will start to ship their new PCIe AES/EBU card in late april (at least in Germany). Since RME has been pretty reliable in the past I wouldn´t be surprised if the RME card will be available earlier than the Lynx card. Come on... april 15th...how many times has the release date been pushed back since it was "mid 2007"?

Please, don't let this be our worst nightmer.
I just racked in my new Lynx 8 today and can't wait to use it.

Well, if RME delivers first, just get their AES/EBU card. They have a reputation for much more solid drivers, too. And Total Mix is great. No need to go for a Lynx... AES/EBU IS AES/EBU...
