| i thought i would toss my hat in the ring too :) forgive me if i'm being too forward, but... dear studio owners: i just got my recording diploma overseas and i'm moving back to the states in a few weeks. i'm looking for an internship or assistant engineer position at a studio. location is of no object, i am willing to move anywhere for the right opportunity! here's a little information about me: i'm 28 years old... but don't let that put you off. i'm mature, professional, highly motivated, goal oriented and determined to succeed. aside from my engineering diploma i also have a bachelors degree in marketing. i have a ton of experience communicating and working with clients. i've worked as a network administrator, marketing coordinator, graphic designer, photographer, writer and almost everything else in between. i've always loved music; it's a huge part of my life and, last year, i decided a career change was in order and really got serious about engineering. i'm available all the time. i have no girlfriend, no pets, no kids and no obligations of any kind that would hinder my ability to be in the studio all day and all night. this is something i'm looking forward to. I'm punctual, dependable, honest and i have my own transportation. i have a great attitude and no task is beneath me. i want to learn from the best, and if that means cleaning toilets, scrubbing floors, walking your dog, doing your laundry and/or washing your car to get the chance to watch over your shoulder, i'm in. if this sounds like something you'd be interested in, feel free to pm me for more information, resume, work samples, etc... thanks, sebastian |

| Gear Head | haha! burn. I'm not sure what you're implying about age. Is 28 too young or too old in your opinion? I started interning when I was 20 and I've went farther than others who are closer to their 30s. I don't want to disregard your efforts in any way. But most people who make the decisions on interns or assistants don't necessarily seek them out. There's a line of kids out the door of most every studio, small or large, waiting for their chance. My advice is to pick a handful of locations and a handful of studios in each location. Then email, call, visit.... do it all to get their attention. Because there's a snowball's chance in hell that THEY will come looking for YOU. Interns grow on trees. Assistants are the ones good enough to sell at the fruit stands. Rather grim analogy, I know.... but it doesn't get much more in-depth than that. Are there any specific cities you've been checking out? |

| Two (rather blunt) thoughts - 1. If you have a BA in marketing, how come you are selling yourself so poorly and in such an unfocused manner? Just as what are you selling yourself? Market researcher? Network engineer? PT operator? Record engineer? What? You don't seem very focused to me! 2. We don't need dog-walkers, coffee makers, bog-scrubbers and all those other things you mention, but people with useful skills like music arranging, valve circuit designers and other technical and musical skills that actually pay the bills! Best of luck, but, for your own sake, think hard about point one please.

| Gear maniac | i totally agree with all of you, that this was a weird post. an email like this... and the hundred that i have received like this... is why The Milkhouse Recording Studio no longer accepts interns. but if my software engineer friends were treated like this.. they would be running for the door. the studio game is brutal, and i think its one of the reasons why i love it. |

| thanks for the replies and the advice guys... sorry, i'm new here and maybe i didn't know exactly how to go about posting something like this, or whether i should have even posted it at all. i just took a chance thinking that this was a place where people would try to help each other out. oh well.. just covering all the bases. also, i was merely trying to point out that i'm versatile and i can help out around the studio in other areas, not just engineering. thanks again! |
