Mix Outside The Box.com

Hey. I'm starting this web sight. The idea behind the web sight is to get people to start recording and mixing in the studio more as apposed to their house. I'm looking for statistics, Names of studios that have closed, or any other information you guys have
Thanks

*yes, OF COURSE, many traditional studios have closed - the real estate prices are not supported by most industry income any longer in most cases - and the studio business was mostly break-even at best, anyhow. all the old HW is no longer necessary. it may be preferred, but it's not necessary. too many pros working successfully ITB.

*everyone and their mother has a home studio and creates their own music

*a good portion of radio / tv / web music is either poorly produced, or poorly mixed,
but it's irrelevant, because it doesn't pay what it used to, anyhow - again, not that it was ever a high-income profession for most.

of course, there are exceptions to these facts - and there are always the top .00001% of the business who do make money, and manage to keep large format studios open.

posting links to support my opinions will be endless, so i'll leave you to draw
more of your own conclusions.

i voted yes in your poll, but to be clear, the traditional large format studio might exist for a while longer despite the state of the industry, simply because it remains a trendy niche market, that does not necessarily rely on market income for sustainance. there might always exist purists and independently wealthy folks who want this kind of gear around.

lately, i mix ITB

Well, home recording is nothing new. I have the Weezer "kitchen tape" sessions on my Zune. Sure, the quality a person can get at home has improved but the idea is still the same. Musicians are typically cheap and will push out the best demo they can get for the least amount of money.

I'd say on scale of 1 - 10 (10 being best quality of audio and 1 being the worst) its pretty easy to get to an 8 with a minimal investment. But its getting to 9 and 10 that you tough. That's where the pro studios come in.
