producing music for games, a few business questions

A game development company asked me to create 4 peaces of music for a game. Im new to this business so i would like to know what im in for.

What kind of payment is used and how much can i expect? I dont want to overreach.
Do you get a fixed amount, or royalties?

Usually but not always:
No royalties
You get fixed amount
Developer already set up a budget for this task.
Price varies.

If you want to get more in detail about this stuff. Let me know

hey gizeh12 - i work for a music library and occasionally license music to game developers.

Firstly, i agree w/ all of Byron's points - spot on! Second depending on the type of game and the associated budget prices can vary greatly. On a major release console game the top end composers can earn up to $1000 per min of music composed. On the lower end a basic web game may have a music budget of only several hundred dollars all in.

Please PM me if you'd like further info.

Best,

TK
