Converting DP files to .wav files

Hi, all. I just had a client come in with a big bunch of files that did neither of us any good. He's working with Digital Performer (he didn't know which version...) on a Mac and I told him over the phone to convert them to .wav files for PC. I'm mixing in Samplitude.

I'm not familiar with the program, so I could only give him guidelines and tell him how to do it in the programs that I know.

Can anyone give me the basics so that I can fill him in? He's not amazingly savvy, but I'm sure if I can get it I can convey it to him.

Thanks,

Ken Rutkowski

Well, if he is not aware of what version of DP he use, you better not get too technical with him. Plus he will spend hrs exporting.

I suggest you ask him to export the OMF & bring his track(s) foler(s) on a Hard disk.

I hope this helps

It will be troublesome and time consuming on both ends if the client has a whole bunch of files to convert.
You might even end up trying to time align many of the files if the client is not savvy.
True, OMF might be a better solution.

There's really no export tracks to individual files command available in such a high-end program? That seems bizarre.

In Samplitude I can do it in several ways. I have it saved as a preset, and it's a three-click process that takes literally under a minute to complete on a small-to-medium sized project.

I have to see if I can do anything with OMF files.

In DP's Soundbite window it's easy to batch convert multiple files in DP to all the pro formats, including wave files. This feature has been in DP for a long time.

Before exporting he should merge soundbites so that they all start at the same point. I have to go between DP, PT, and Radar and this seems to be the best way to do it. OMF is great, when it works, but is not reliable. Give it a try but don't count on it.

The way I export tracks is activate the all track group.
Create a new take for all the tracks.
Create a very short soundbite and place it at the zero point of all tracks
Select all and merge soundbites
in the soundbites window:
Sort by time created
select the merged tracks (they will be at the bottom)
Export as .wav

This is more cumbersome in DP than in PT but not terribly so.
