G4 Pwr Bk Defective CD Burner

My G4 Pwr Book 667 apparently has a defective CD burner/DVD player. It was always picky about the brand of CD's it would burn but now it won't burn on ANY BRAND. Apple took me thru diagnostic steps including trying to burn in OS9 & OSX and deduced the burner was bad. My next move is to bring it in to a local shop and have it serviced under Apple Care.

Anybody have any advice or similar experience w/this issue? I'd hate to replace the burner only to find out it was some other issue.

Thanks.
