Hello all I mix all the time in ProTools and DP - both stereo and surround.... have done for years. I have done some mixing in Logic - but not a massive amount. I’ll soon be mixing a few projects in Logic - one stereo, one surround.... I know a few of the key commands such as “v” to switch a track to volume automation display, and ‘control arrows’ to zoom in and out, up and down.... option click on a plugin bypases it..... and I know to go to global preferences/automation and to disable all but volume automation - so I’m not accidentally automating a pan.... or whatever.... ...any other simple and handy key commands or workflow tips (that relate to mixing) that I can quickly learn? thanks! Menu -> File -> Export -> All tracks as audio files I grew up on Logic. Got into protools a couple of years back and now I fear mixing in Logic. /Jens |

Lots of key commands, to get an overview, do this: LogicPro Menu > Prefs > Key Commands >open them then you see a field called "Options" click on it and theres a menupoint: copy key commands to clipboard. Then you open a text editor of your choice and paste the commands . Good lecture for 2 evenings ! good luck and all the best. I would recommend also to export the files to PT, when you're used to it... |

| The problem is everyone seems to use their own keycommands. So do I. It's kind of easy to copy auto data by high light the parameter you wish to copy (View Automation data, from there you can select vol, pan etc). Shift + drag over the data, then it gets high lighted once again, then alt + drag to where you want it... Or just drag it if you wanna move it / fine tune it Hope this helps /Jens |

Also remember you can offset any type of automation data (apart from on/off types of course) by Cmd+clicking in the yellow bar to the left. This selects all automation data, and afterwards you simply pull up/down to offset.

[QUOTE=mixerguy;994372]AWESOME TIP!!! thanks to all for the tips. any others? [/QUOTEYou may already know this but in case you do not, the most important thing to know about mixing in Logic and frequently misunderstood by PT guys concerns panning. With Universal Track Mode on you can have a mixture of stereo tracks and mono. However on a stereo object the pan knob really becomes nothing more than a balance control. If you want to have the kind of control you are used to over where it sits in the stereo field you need to use a plug-in on the track called the Direction Mixer. Alos Logic has several pan laws you can choose from. Also coming from PT you will probably want the default drag mode to be No Overlap (in the upper right hand corner of the Arrange window.) PM me if you need help. Logic Certified Trainer www.jayasher.com |

Not sure if this really sounds interesting to you but you may want to set up some screensets with some of the following: 1-Automation Event List Editor (via keycommand only, no default) 2-Automation Folder Window (only available if you open the Automation Event List Editor and then open another arrange window. when you do this, it opens the Automation Folder Window, which looks like a normal arrange, accept that you'll have access to all your automation as if they were regions...allowing you to easily copy automation data between tracks and all sorts of other fun stuff, like looping automation) 3-Options>track auto>convert track automation to hyper draw This allows you to pack your automation data into a region so that you can perfrom transform functions on it, loop it, time stretch it. All sorts of fun stuff because its then available to you to tweak in the event list editor just like you would MIDI data.

Mixing in logic? Screensets, man! Set yourself up some screensets of your mixer page, each highlighting a different section (say audio 1-16 on SS6, 17-32 on SS7, busses on SS8, master section on SS9, etc). Much faster than scrolling. However, if a track has it's output routed to say, bus 25, by double-clicking on the output select it will jump the screen straight to that bus. Keep a screenset on the audio configuration page, as currently the only way to copy plugins directly from one channel to another is in this page. If you are mixing the same track twice (for you stereo and 5.1 mix) but in different projects, then save each channel strip setting so you can call up the exact plugin configuration in the next project. I am mixing 4 tunes currently for a band, all in different projects, and that method has saved me hours. Get a great drum sound in one song, and two minutes of saving has all the other tacks sounding just as good. I'm a lazy, lazy man. Hence, I never bothered to learn ProStools. heath. |
