Sound Effects Library for a large creative team. Hey slutz. My company has a large MP3 based sound effects library. What I'm trying to do with it, is make it searchable and readable to the whole team. There are many issues I've run into while trying to do with with iTunes because we are in a Mac and Windows environment. Can anyone recommend any other software that may help do the trick? thanks!

I have a huge sfx library myself and I store all the sfx in one location organized by library (BBC, Hollywood Edge, etc) and cd by title name. Then I may have a shortcut location where I have a folder called "guns" and inside it are shortcuts to all the gun cds from other libraries. Not all categories need this.. partially it is just about knowing your libraries and where you go for what kind of effect. Also I am curious if you are a business why you have mp3 sound effects?

Was it bought through itunes? I mean you should have ID tags on it that can be read by any player. When I rip BBC library it shows up in Winamp for example with full tags from cddb. With this any machine should be able to categorize the files by id tags. If your library tags can only be read by Itunes then Im not sure what a good solution would be. Why not run Itunes from both platforms?

I use soundminer to database sounds. It's an excellent piece of software; support/customer care is excellent too. Can't say enough good things about this software/company. Saves HUGE time, I couldn't work without it I don't think. You can set it up to access a single library over ethernet from multiple stations. Also I strongly reccommend using mp4 instead of mp3 if you need to save space on your sounds.....

I work in game industry and when I needed a solution fast I used Itunes. We had many sound libraries and so I made a folder for each sound library with a playlist of each disc inside of iTunes. I then importd all the wav files of each library into their necessary folder into iTunes and saved the entire playlist. I then exported the playlist and then imported it on the itunes on everyone eles machine. Itunes search is nice and fast and it lets you drag audio from itunes directly into DAW which is pretty quick. I would prefer to use a different program but most of them are designed for use with PT and we don't use PT so they are no good to us. Jamie
