love the E-channel.. which has become essential to my mixing... even if it doesnt sound as good as the real thing the UI is amazing...

the other 2 i use but wouldn't live or die by...

I have the plugins, I use them every day !!!
I really dont care if they sound close to the real stuff, if they sound good, if they can help your mixes in some way, thats what really matters to me.
I use URS eq also, very good plugins but waves ssl are really more punchy to my ears ( dont use so much of the G series Eq. I find the E-channel Eq. to be more musical ) .

I also find the ssl master compressor a little hard to master, but maybe it´s just me...?!

I like them a lot.

They're definitely the SSL sound, though - too harsh for some applications.

+1 for the Waves, though this it's a no-comparison comparison. I've not ran it against Duende.

I use all 3 quite a bit.

I actually really like the G eq, too. And the bus comp is pretty awesome.

Just my $.02. There are other great plugs out there too, but the Waves SSL really turned out to be a great bundle for me.

i love them--i'd go so far as to say the channel has the best sounding software eqs i've heard (sounds much better than urs to my ears). i particularly like them on drum overheads and bass guitar.

I'll second that. Don't know if they even come close to a real SSL but I don't really care; that eq is just so nice - probably the most valuable addition to my arsenal!

the bus comp is hard?

I pretty much do the same thing with it as i'd do with a smart C2.. 4:1, 10ms, auto

knock off a few dB and fuggidaboutit

this has been discussed greatly. a search will give you alot of info.

2¢: the convenience of the E channel is great - everything on one plug. i wish they had the same for the G channel, which i prefer for alot of things. can't figure out why they didn't either make a dynamics section that you could use as a separate plug, or a G channel with dynamics on it like they did with the E.

imo the buss comp is very usable but it's not my FX384.

hint. try some of the presets so you can see what it's doing and how. can't remember what they're called but they're pretty self explanatory.

ssl

They do have the ssl sound and they are efficient plugs, they do however have one drawback.
Waves in there infinite wisdom do not support sidechaining in audio units only TDM.
This limits the use of the bus compressor as a master compressor/limiter.
That said they are very good in every other aspect.Go get em

E-channel on bass guitar... good use... very funky... punchy sound...

all the other comps seem to mush it up....
sometimes you need to couple it with a warmer comp or eq....

bass drums snares toms . awesome...

g bus comp on overheads, drum busses in general...

other sounds maybe need warmer plugins... like urs, psp, nomad, uad,et....

Hmmmm...

I must admit that I didn't got desired results from that package. Maybe it needs more tweaking than other VST plug ins which I used - Waves R-Comp and IK Multimedia T-Racks....

****

I dropped Waves SSL from my work, but your good words about them will force me to learn them better!

d3man,

give them a try, and take a little time to test them on some different instruments. i think the ssl plugs are def. worth the price!
for me the Comp is great on the master bus!it glues things together and it makes a nice punch!

cheers

Yes, the E channel plug has auto makeup gain in the compression section just like the desk. From Waves' site:

The dynamics section features a soft-knee compressor/limiter and an expander/gate modeled on the SSL LS611E. Like the original, it can be placed before or after the equalization section, and makeup gain is automatically applied to maintain a steady output level. The compressor’s adjustable attack lets you choose between the default auto-sensing function which responds to your source material or a fixed 1 ms. attack time.
