Anyone else having firewire issues on Mac Pros?

An interesting read:

I've been gearing up to buy one this month, but there still seems to be a lot of issues to iron out with software, hardware.

Kinda scary.

That's interesting.
I have two pcs that refuse to hold a NTFS disk in firewire case, without corrupting them during heavy use. A 5 year old pc with Win2K does work properly.

Vista on the newest PC also makes the firewire reliable.
Win XP does NOT, not even with separate PCI cards and dedicated (non XP) drivers. (The XP drivers are ancient, by the way).

So it would seem Apple have run into the same problems, with PC motherboards and a funky driver ?

What bugs me is under Vista it works, so there is a solution, but there is no patch for XP? Nice&friendly

I think OSX 10.4.8 has some bugs also. Either that or quicktime, or core audio or something. I never, never had a quit on I Tunes until version 7, 10.4.8. Now it's kinda hit or miss.

This is on a PPC Powermac G4 that has been rock solid in past.

Oh well. I hope this isn't a reflection of apple growing too fast. Seems reliability has been a big issue.

I use DP and I'm still on version 4.6.1, but those on version 5, especially with the intel macs are really having issues with crashes, etc.

Man do I want a new Mac, but these issues scare the hell out of me.
