white noise blasts with ProTools LE, Mac Pro Intel and Mbox 1

I have a MBOX vsn1 and MacPro 2.66 desktop - Intel

latest (approved) software - 7.1.1 cs2
os 10.4.8 - (approved)

i've done all the usual trash pref files, databases, dae prefs, core audio, etc... and repaired disk permissions..... removed ALL plugs from the plugin folder....

i'm playing a quicktime DV file out to my Canopus box.... and playing back the audio out my mbox (only using the mbox as a video playback - no plugs at all...)

and audio plays ok for about 5-10 minutes - then the audio gets distorted and low level, or blasts constant white noise really loudly.....

any ideas?

DIGI - I'M NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS!!!

oh yeah - i tried a different USB cable - no luck

i'm NOT using a USB hub at all

i also tried a pals identical mbox 1 - same problem.....

I also emailed Digi tech support......

this turns my $3,000 Mac Pro into a doorstop. what a drag.

Wow! This has been going on since 2006?!!

There is a huge thread over on the PT forum about this.

A rather well respected guy in the pro tools forum recently had a huge blast of white noise in PT that fried his monitor(s). I guess it's not just the 8.0.3 version.

Crazy. You would think DIGI would have fixed this by now!
