Cubase SX3: Processing incoming audio with a plugin...problem..

this problem baffles me:

I cant get my plugins to recognize that there is sound coming into my audio channels in cubase sx 3. I.E. i cant get plugins to process incoming audio.

My plugins work fine normally, as im able to process rewire and vst audio out channels in cubase BUT i CANT get incoming audio to be processed.

The plugins act like there is no signal coming into them....even though cubase does register incoming audio (it shows up on my level meters plus i can hear it, plus it records fine).

I have the plugins turned on in the insert section of the audio channel that has the audio coming in.

what am i doing wrong?

thank you very much.

What I/O box are you using? Are you monitoring via a CueMix software from the I/O box as they tend to BYPASS internal EFFECTS when monitoring through those apps which gives you Zero Latency monitoring for the most part. RME has a Moniotoring Software app that useable on the front end as well with thier I/O's
You WONT get effects in the INSERTS if your using those types of apps to monitor.
Do you have your Audiotin buss setup in the VST connections window?

Send a message via AIM to treymonfauntre
you need to set the effect on the input channel (in the mixer)

You need to put the monitor button on for the channel you want to hear the FX

I agree with shanabit, this likely sounds like the culprit...

i talked to a friend and he said u cant monitor plugsins from incoming audio in real time.

he said you have to record it first then put a plug in on it...is this true?

You can monitor plugins realtime on the input. This is starndard these days.

If you can not hear the plugin on input but you can on playback this can only mean one thing. When you are recording you are not hearing the audio through Cubase but directly through your soundcard (or MAYBE both). Go under devices-->device setup and to vst audiobay. Make sure direct monitoring is UNCHECKED. This will allow you to hear signal through Cubase when the monitor button is on. Now you need to turn off the signal going straight through your hardware so you only hear the version going through Cubase. You probably will do this in your sound card software mixer or settings.

U can do this, u just have to uncheck the direct monitoring, but then u will introduce unusable latency. Hope this helps.
