Thread Starter | Using Gstudio with the M-Audio USB Audiophile...
...can I do it? The Nemesys website says that the Audiophile can cope with it but doesn't mention anything about the USB Audiophile. I just spent a not inconsiderable amount on GStudio 160 (I can use it with my desktop, but I bought it to gig with.) Many thanks, Martin |

Martin, these are totally different beasts.. the PCI Audiophile and all the Delta PCI cards do come with GSIF Drivers. To my knowledge none of the M Audio USB Solutions come with GSIF, so I believe that no would be the answer. To be honest USB 1 (IMHO) will never be as good as solution as PCI/Firewire or (hopefully) USB 2. It just doesnt have the bandwidth. The only USB Solutions I know of that have GSIF support are the tascam 122, 224 and 428 units. But I havent tried them with Giga yet. We did do a Giga for The Who a couple of weeks ago, and they're using the new 1884 firewire unit.... seems to work well. Al.

Plus, Ggastudio juat doesn't get on with anything USB, I've had many problems with USB I/O and Giga. Giga is extremely touchy.

I'm doing Giga's with Midisport 4x4 Interface's and with the latest XP drivers they seem tolerable... but in General CV7 yes I totally agree.... Hopefully some news early next year will improve this Al. |

Thanks for the replies everyone. Seems I had my wires crossed Is giga the "luvvie" of the software world then? ("I'm NOT working in these conditions!!!")Al - so would a firewire interface be ok then (if it came with GSIF drivers)? Would it be stable enough to "trust" live? M |

Martin, From my tests to date I would say yes. We have our own Giga solutions on which I know and trust the Firewire ports. If possible try to maybe take your PC into your dealers and try the Interface your considering. I know the Tascam works, and I'm pretty sure the MOTU's are ok. I havent tried the M Audio firewire 410 yet (not even sure if it has GSIF??) but we've had..... erm mixed results with this interface on DAWS let alone Giga's so I'm not a huge rush to test it to be honest. Al. |

Al, Thanks for the advice. I'll get my laptop into my local dealer and see if I can test interfaces. Thanks, Martin |
