Any suggestions for a DAW "remote" controller

I have the Mackie control and extender as part of my DAW ( Nuendo 2.1/XP Pro).

I need a remote with just the transport controls, so I can stop, start, record etc. from a remote spot (behind my keyboards)
Does this kind of thing exist?

I have plenty of midi ports and USB ports.
any suggestions?

The Contour Design SPROV2 SHUTTLE PRO 2 looks really nice.
How easy or difficult is it to set up as a remote control for the transport functions? (play, stop, ffwd, rewind, left, prev, jog, rec etc.)

Hmm,

maybe this one would help and it's a cheap solution.

How's about a simple "numeric keypad" like the ones you can buy separately for laptops?

There you will have your Transport Buttons pre-configured like they are on your "normal" Keyboard.

Something like this:

I hope this helps,

Both the contours are easy to setup for a given app..... Do check your chosen app is supported though.... 99 percent are. As long as you have the profile installed on your computer the Shuttle (Express or Pro) wil do the job.

So far its been flawless for me.. unlike the Novation remote and some other devices I could mention....

Mcal, what software are you recording with? I've got N2.1/XP Pro.
That's a really cool idea.

I'm running ProTools 6.1 TDM with Reason, Live and Melodyne rewired into it...... bit of a mixed bag lol

I just checked the Contour website (http://www.contourdesign.com/shuttlepro/sp-apps.htm) and your in luck it does support Nuendo 2 on Windows XP.

I use an ATI Remote Wonder. You can map some of the buttons to be transport controls, plus you can move the pointer around as if you are holding a mouse in your hand.

How about a simple wireless keyboard and mouse?
Doesn't look as cool but works great!

Actually, there's a very cool think out now called the "pok." It's a wireless footswitch that controls your keyboard, so you can make it do anything your keyboard does. Very handy!

Anyone tried the Contour Shuttle Xpress yet?

The price on the pok just seems ridiculously high for what is on offer.
I mean, $319 for what looks like a Zoom cheapo multieffects pedal with a very basic programmable wireless setup inside?

I built a wired (not a wireless) controller years ago that allows me to play, record, rewind etc from a second location in my studio. My keyboard runs directly into the controller and the controller is connected into the keyboard port of my PC. There is a device made for arcade emulation that allows you to build your own control panel and program the buttons to any keyboard stroke.
I'll post a pic later.

Now that's pretty cool.

Had to get one on Ebay. This is slick as hell. I can sit on my couch and control my DAW. Sweet.
