| Just go here http://www.ipodbattery.com/, get a new battery and replace it. The old iPods are easy to take apart, and as long as you're not completely clueless, it's nothing to take the old battery out and put a new one in. Plus you get to look inside your iPod and marvel at the tiny hard drive. I'm gonna email those guys and tell 'em not to be so lazy and do a little research before posting stuff on the web. ![]()

| I don't think it's a matter of laziness, it's a matter of Apple not really giving a shit about their customers. If it doesn't cost much for somebody who is computer savy to change the battery, then how about the average person who is clueless? What are they supposed to do? Everybody who is on Gearslutz pretty much knows how to change drive's batteries, etc. You know we Apple heads, love to talk about what a great company Apple is and so forth, but you heard the tech support person say that it will cost them $255!!!!What kind of tech support is this shit!! If Microsoft would have done this we would be on their ass faster than you can say Steve Jobs!! It's about Apple caring for their customers and those days are long gone. I'm pretty sure you remember the Dual Mirror G4's that were released that were louder than a vacuum cleaner!! If those cat's didn't set up the website www.G4noise.com, and raise some hell, Apple would have never swapped out the power supplies on those computers. I think you should hold off on your e-mail, and check Apple's track record on quality control the last year or so...it's not so great! |

| Yeah well - the info is still out of date. Apple has changed their whole ipod battery program. Not only will they now replacement them OUT of warranty for $99 - but its completely covered under applecare for $59. The original story does not reflect the current reality.

| I guess $60 is O.K, not $100!!! I always get Applecare, for every Apple product that I buy. I worked as Apple repair technician for about 8 months, and I saw too many horror stories to ever get an Apple product without any warranty!! The information is not dated either. It has been in the last 2 months that Apple changed their policy regarding the iPods battery!! Just call up your local Mac repair shops and find out when this was changed and you will know I'm not wrong. I've been using Mac's for way too long, and I can tell you first hand, that quality control is going out the window!!! But at the end of the day, I still put up with it, cause I use my Mac every day so I can compose music. |

| It's worth noting that the AppleCare program adds only a year to the original warranty. This is the first I've heard of the $99 battery replacement cost. Can anyone confirm, or post links that verify this. I've got (actually my daughters own) a pair that I've got to decide on AppleCare for very soon. |

| Quality control is going out the window? Apple hardware has always been terrible, beautifully-packaged bleeding-edge technology implemented in the cheapest possible way to build with no attention paid at all to reliability or repair-ability. Mac IIs were a sea of cold solder joints that made an MCI look like a Neve. Apple is also notorious for "recycling" hardware which means you are frequently buying "b-stock" sub-assemblies as part of "new" computers. Everybody I know who has been using Apples for more than a couple years has plenty of personal horror stories about Apple's hardware. Those of us in music have bought Macs in spite of Apple, never because of Apple. And everything bad you've read about Microsoft is true too so don't anybody think I have a warm place in my heart for them. |

| In Apple's defense (reluctantly), I don't believe there's anything unusual about recycling used/remanufactured parts as a function of factory service. And the Macs built in the late 90's were brick@#$*houses IMHO: I currently own a 533DP, a Digital Video iMac and a 15" flatscreen iMac. Only the latter has been any trouble. |

| Hmmm....Anybody got an opinion about reliability comparison between the G4 Pwr Books and the G4 Towers? I currently own a 1yr old 667 G4 Pwr Book. I need more processing and am thinking of upgrading. I'm looking at getting a new G4 Tower but after reading some of these posts I'm wary. Should I get a faster TiBook instead? Are they built any better than the towers or is it a wash? I haven't had any issues w/my TiBook apart from the burner not liking certain CD brands. Any guidance is much appreciated. Damon |
