RME Fireface 400 + Octamic D?

I just wanted to ask a question to more experienced users.
On the fireface 400 information page it reads:
"An ADAT optical I/O allows for a connection and insertion of effects devices, mixing consoles or external converters. Of course, these 8 channels are available simultaneously with the analog channels. Using an additional ADI-8 DS or OctaMic D, you'll get 16 analog inputs and outputs"

I'm purchasing now a Fireface 400 and I'm interested in the possibility of this kind of expansion later on. I get how it is possible to add 8 new analog inputs to the system, but is it really possible to add also those 8 analog outputs mentioned? how is the Octamic D working like an added 8 analog output system? it apparently only has two a/dat optical outputs, no input, so how does it relate to the FF400? (maybe the thing is that I'm missing out on something.) Could you help me sort this out? Thanks!

yet just another question, does anyone know if something like this (the addition of an A/D converter they did on the Octamic will be at some point available as a new model of the Quadmic, or something similar?) Thanks again!

HI,
yes you can add the Octamic D to the FF 400.
its designed as an A/D only not D to A.
your ff 400 has analog out puts you can use.

if you must have ad and da then look at the Presonus Digimax FS.
not quite the conveter quality but has both

Thanks for the answer, that's what I was figuring out by looking at the configuration, but then how could you explain they say: "Using an additional ADI-8 DS or OctaMic D, you'll get 16 analog inputs and outputs"?
