alrighty, ill be moving to SAMP 9 Pro soon from Cubase i have a couple of questions! first, i intend to do all my recording and mixing at 88.2K or 96K. i will be recording up to 18 tracks at once through a FF800. so, can i set up SAMP to split the tracks across 2 internal SATA (maybe SATA II) HDs when i'm recording? while we're at it, how many tracks can a single SATA HD handle being recorded to / streamed from for mixing before it starts to creak? also, can anyone recommend a RAID controller so that i can have a backup of both drives automatically? i do not want to run the risk of losing one of the 2 drives i will be splitting my sessions across. next up! i have read the SAMP 9 website thoroughly and am very impressed with its feature set and included effects plugins. so, how good are they really? particularly the EQ, Dynamics, Convolution Reverb and Delay / Chorus / etc. do they stand up to the best 3rd party plugins out there? and finally, for now at least, does SAMP operate in a similar way to Cubase when recording multiple takes? ie, i record rock and roll bands and will have to do multiple takes of many things. an ergonomic way of auditioning and comping is essential. i am also fully proficient at this kind of thing in ProTools so as long as SAMP is somewhere in betweenthe 2, which lets face it are pretty damn close as it is anyway! why am i moving to SAMP? because of all the positive feedback regarding the quality, clarity and punch of the audio engine / summing. add to that its feature set. i really am impressed with it. it includes many processors / effects / tools that are NOT included in the likes of Cubase and PT. it really seems like a great piece of kit. so hell, i'll give it a shot! and besides, changing one's DAW every couple of years keeps you on your toes! thanks, regards, richie. PS thanks to everyone who replied to my 2 threads of a week or 2 back about rackmounting my DAW and S939 mobos! i'm sorry for not getting back with thanks, i've been a busy bee and getting busier. tough old station, eh?

Richie, I use Samp but I've never tried the splitting HDs thing. Embarrassingly, the reason I moved to Samp was because I'm a computer idiot and I didn't have to be a compu-nerd to operate Samp. Someoen will chime in, I'm sure. I just wanted to make sure you got some love from SOMEONE in the Samp Camp. Good luck. You'll love it, Dude. |
