002 rack + mac pro 3Ghz tower= no dice???

Hi guys,
Upgraded my 001 to the 002 rack. I know it's not officially supported yet but the rep at West L.A. Music assured me he had been selling these units to Mac Pro owners and they had been working just fine.

Core audio doesn't even register on my new set up so either I am missing something here or the sales guy at West L.A. lied.

Anyone verify either way?

Thanks as always.

Hi!
Already been a thread about Mac Pro and PT LE/MP...and also on Mac Pro + HD...

If you hit the DUC, in the LE Mac section, you will find user experiences.

Personally, for me, it worked fine. I have a 2.66G, but that makes no difference compared to the 3G machine. You have to be sure to use th eproper software, and keep non-compatible stuff OFF of it, period. Buy a Mac Pro, buy a 002R, download the PT LE 7.1.1cs1 software, follow the "Getting Started With..." guide, and there should not be any problem.

I used it that way, installed plug-ins that were Mac Intel compatible (many are via a universal binary, but some use a Mac Intel specific installer/code ackage, such as the Massey Plugins), and used core audio for stuff like embedded QT, etc, and for things like Synthogy's Ivory in stand-alone (only MacTel for stand-alone and AU at the time).

It does, and should, work.

Ditto.

I have a few 'hiccups' that I posted also over at the DUC.

- 002R 'dropping' out.
- Clicks and pops when playing iTunes through 002.

But that's about it. I have a full week next week where I'm gonna use it for real. I've only really been gettin things installed and fired up.

Seems you guys mistook my original post. Im not looking to purchase...I already own. Been using Pro Tools for the past 7 years and cannot figure out why I cant even get one stereo track to play back without getting buffer size errors!

Any actual advice (yes Ive checked the forums) would be appreciated.

I guess we can only wait until MacPro is 'officially' supported and get a cs update when made available.

I have no idea how you would do this, but verifying that your firewire ports are operating properly would be my first call. Possibly, a good, true test would be to use a PCIe firewire card, and try that. If it resolves the issue, my bet is the firewire bussing is buggered on your Mac Pro. This is assuming you have tried unplugging and replugging the 002 while the Mac is on (supped to reset the firewire port).

As far as pops and click sin itunes...I had that, but the volume/output in the Core Audio dalogue for the Digi hardware was almost full up; lowering it a notch or two cleaned things up. Oddly, itunes was the only problem area...

i doubt the guy lied.

you said he's been selling them to 002 owners, and they worked fine for them. i know several mac pro + 002 owners not having any problems outside of the itunes issue (and re: itunes, why anyone would voluntarily impose the 002 D/A on non-digi software is beyond me, so its really a non-issue.)

but the guy told you his experiences with the configuration, and there is plenty of evidence from users without issues that his experiences can be supported.

semantics, yes i know. But no need to smear West L.A. Music's staff based on speculation, besides... its not yet Digi supported anyway. So you're already running at your own risk, regardless of what West L.A.'s salesmen say. If it ain't supported, it ain't supported. Consider the folks who got it working lucky and wait for it to be supported.

Nobody's smearing anybody. I placed my order on the salesman's assurance that it was working on the same set up for other customers. So far it is not working on mine so I came here to get feedback from others. I think this is perfectly valid.

While my issues are not as yet resolved, it is encouraging to hear that others are up and running.

ya know... i forgot until you said that... mine did the same when i went to 7. never did that with the old version of core audio. i also lowered the coreaudio fade just a hair, and all is well.

i haven't compared them to the built-in converters on the mac pro. however, i have heard them compared to the stock converters in a 466G4, powermac G5, imac G5, and macbook. and the 002 won each time.

is it better than apogee/mytek/(insert your fav. converter here)? is it better than the stock "one chip from whomever would give it to apple the cheapest that month" converters? yeah.

now the real question is... why was i bored enough to actually do those comparisons with all mine, as well as several friend's computers?
