how do you add outboard gear effects to Cubase during mixdown?

I just got a PRO VLA compressor, and wanted to add the comp as a master effect when I am doing mixdown. Usually what I do after I am done with Cubase, I go over to SOund Forge, and use the compressors there. I'd like to be able to use the PRO VLA instead. Is this possible?

Yes it is since version 3.
May it be you use a version that has no manual?

F4 takes you to VST connections
click EXTERNAL EFFECTS tab
Add External Effects
Name it
Select Stereo or Mono, whichever your doing
Hit + sign under Send and Return to open up the dialog box
Under AUDIO DEVICE column, select your audio driver

Next select which Inputs and outputs you have it connected to in the DEVICE PORT column.
Close out of the VST connecitons window and go to your mixer.
Hit F3 to pull up your mixer.
Click on the EQ looking bar thingy on the bottom left in the space where its not BLUE, youll now see the whole mixer.

Top left, click on SHOW ALL INSERTS.
Go to your Master out now and INSERT the BUSS/EFFECT you just created in the VST COnnections window.

That should save you a little reading

Dude your a life saver! I don't even think if I DID read the manual I would of ever figured it out. So thanks again. I am assuming you can do this with any outboard gear like my T.C Electronics multi effects unit?

Hi...sorry if I am hijacking the thread...I heard SX3 can do something like "ping" the external device to measure for any latency. How does one do that?

I will be hooking up a 1/4" machine to my audio interface, and the tape recorder will be in "repro" mode which means I will be recording the signal reproduced by the machine in realtime back to my DAW. Of course there is a certain gap between the record and playback heads, thus the "latency"(lag) that results.

Is there any other way to measure this type of "lag" accurately without this feature? (I'm still in SX2.2 )

You give excellent advice and really know what you're talking about.
I think that's pretty damn rare these days.
