Any idea how to calculate the Hardware delay compensation on PT inserts

Not much info on the Digi manual about this feature.
Is there a proven way how to calculate the needed delay when using hardware at the insert points?

Yeah, take a really fast sample, like half a snare hit, and send it out, into the outboard, and back in. Compare that to the original hit, and see how many samples it's late.

Yeah, but does that mean that PT automatically compensate for this ?

What about the I/O setup. What to fill in on the "H/W insert delay" ?

You don't have to calculate the delay compensation if you use HD and use it with the Digidesign converters, when ADC is turned on it will compensate automatically...

You can add samples in the I/O setup to compensate for outboard latency of FX boxes if you'd want to do that or if you use converters of other manufacturers coupled with the Digidesign stuff, then you'd have to do as Djui5 pointed out to get to know the delay.

There's one minor point in the whole insert story, if you'd mult signals you'll still get some phasing issues because the ADC is sample accurate and once your signal is converted to analog and back to digital, the converter only outputs in samples and then there's a minor difference which is a bit smaller than one whole sample, so PT can't compensate for that.

For more details and 2 ways to remedy this problem, it was recently discussed here, look at reply #29 in particular...
