Couple Cubase questions

I have a dongle on the back of my G5 with all my licenses, but when I go to ilok.com it won't recognize the Cubase dongle on the front USB port. I'm trying to move the Cubase licenses to my old dongle so I don't have to use the front port, too.

I'm using Cubase with my 002 and in the Hardware setup it has Digi 002 channels 1-9 then 10-18. Which one is the ADAT channels and what is the Analog channels? They both have 8...?

I just installed this puppy and what really stuck out to me was the Mixer window is a lot smaller than Pro Tools'. I could expand it horizontally but not vertically. Any way to make the whole thing bigger?

Also I know Pro Tools used the 2nd processor in my G5 for processing, does Cubase?

Thanks for any help! So far after only spending an hour with Cubase it's different but still VERY cool....it's like growing a second weiner

I think this is correct, Cubase requires its OWN dongle. Steinbergs dongle allows you to put licenses from ANY steinberg product on the dongle. Its not meant for other apps licenses.
If you have other plugins, youll use the i-Lock for those. Anything Steiny goes on the Steiny dongle. Anything else goes on the I-lock.

Normally, if your using the Spdif connections as well it would be like this if you have Optical = ADAT:

1-8 = ANALOG
9-16=ADAT
17-18= SPDIF

hit the F3 key in Cubase and your mixer will open up, look on the bottom left, far left and youll see little bars that look like and EQ sort of, Click in the shaded area and the rest of the mixer will show up. Now if you look at the first strip coming down the left side, these control what is SHOWN in the mixer such as your inserts, eq's , sends and meters. If you look at the second group of icons on the
left bottom, these allow you to select what you want to display in the mixer.

As far as using 2 processors, yes Cubase does this. Go to device/device setup/EXPERT and select multi processing.

Hope this helps. I use these two apps as well BTW

I use a Kensington MODEL #64327 Orbit Optical

I LOVE IT!!!!! So much I have 3 of them!! One on my G4 , one on this PC and one on my VS2480 Roland. They have one that has a bigger ball like the size of a cue ball but I thought it was too cumbersome to move around

I couldnt use a mouse now if I had to

Sorry guys, got another question

In Cubse SX3 you can convert MIDI into standard music notation, right? But why can't you convert music notation into MIDI? Are there such programs that can do this?

Many notation programs do this. I use Finale and it will do this.

Ok guys, got more questions for ya

When I get to Devices-->Device Setup I change the clock source from Internal to Digital(I'm clocking to a Rosetta 800 running S/PDIF to my 002). I click 'Apply' then 'OK' and close the window. After I play audio for a while then go back to check that window, it will keep resorting to 'Internal' anyone know why it's doing this? It's hooked up correctly and in Pro Tools it will clock to ADAT fine.

Also, I'm trying to setup some outboard gear, but I'm not quite sure how to make Cubase recognize it. I have an XLR patchbay connected to the Rosetta 1-8. I switch patches around and such, so I won't have any particular channel devoted entirely to one piece of gear(So instead of always having hardware EQ in ADAT 1 one day it might be patched into ADAT 3). So I go to Devices-->VST Connection. I should be setting up this outboard gear into 'External FX,' correct? I click on 'Add External FX' and created ADAT 1 but under 'Audio Device' it says 'Not Connected.' When I click here my only option to choose from is "Not Connected" or "Digidesign ASIO Master." It won't let me change the Device Port at all.

Sure you can. Enter the notes in Score Edit. Then play them, save as a Cubase song, export a MIDI file - anything you want.

the principal reason it would default back is it's not gettint the clock from the external... check your wiring etc..

I know it's hooked up properly though because when I open up Pro Tools LE it will clock to ADAT just fine

Sorry to be such a royal pain in the ass, but I still haven't figured out the External FX problem..

I have a XLR patchbay being routed to a Rosetta 800 which is then sent to my 002 via ADAT.

Under Device Setup-->VST Inputs/Outputs I can see all of the 002's channels(1-20). Under 'VST System Link' ' "1 Digidesign HW (002)'" is chosen as the ASIO Input and the ASIO Output

I've added 8 Mono Inputs and Outputs for the ADAT channels under the VST connections, but still haven't figured out how to get them to work in the External FX window.

I added a mono/mono in the External FX. When I click on it's tab drop down and look at the Send Bus and the Return Bus I can change the Audio Device, but not the Audio Port. On the Audio Device I can only choose from 'Not Connected' or 'Digidesign HW (002)'. No option to choose channel 9-18(the ADAT channels). I also can't delete any of these External FX channels I create

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Remove the channels you want to use for External FX from the VST Connections Inputs/Outputs lists and then set up the External FX section using these inputs and outputs.

Cubase doesn't allow you to re-use input/output channels as Effects channels.

Yes, but how do I "set up the External FX section using these inputs and outputs" ? I was having this problem before I set up the VST connections. Perhaps I'm just ********, but I can't seem to find where I select the External FX's Inputs/Outputs. There isn't anything under "Audio Device" and I can't select anything under "Audio Port"
