Cubase 4 or Sonar 6 Producer Edition

Pound for pound dollar for dollar which system is the head honcho? Is Cubase 4 worth the price? Is Sonar 6 is what it is all talked about which is the best. Have Cubase made enough improvements for the price?

To be honest I don't think either one of them is better than the other. Different yes and some people might prefer one layout over the other. Both apps are capable of professional results.

With that said I prefer Cubase/Nuendo but I'm won't sit here and say Sonar sucks because it doesn't.

I would try to define what features are important to youand go from there.

Good Luck

I've used SONAR and Cubase in the past, and I think they are both great products. I'm not a Cubase basher in any way, it performed well for me. But I had to choose, and I went with SONAR. With the new upgrade to 6, I am very happy.
One thing I believe, is that Cakewalk's customer support is much better than Steinberg's, and if you go to both forums, you will notice a huge difference in the general atmosphere.
Oh, and the dongle thing.

Cubase user here but I have been looking strongly at Sonar 6. I agree with the DSD's post, both DAW's will do a good job for you. It really comes down to which features you prefer and which GUI is more intuitive for your workflow.

While I was researching Sonar 6 I spent some time on their forum and it is really interesting to note that the overall tone and culture on their board is much friendlier than most. I don't know why but there is a palpable difference.

Question here: When you bring your work to masterize, could he tell if you used PT, Nuendo or Sonar?

I use Sonar because is the one that I really know, that's it.

Sonar 6 PE has a new Beat Detective knockoff. That's enough reason for me to upgrade.

"Why" is easy. The SB staff that are on cubase forum only make an occasional appearance and when they do they are arrogant and condescending. Conbined with the fact that the company consistantly makes poor choices that are not communicated and you have a userbase filled with venom and unload it on the forum because there really is no other place to aim it that would have any chance to be seen or heard by Steinberg.
