Dell LCD TV VS Dell LCD monitor

I am considering the Dell lcd tv OR the computer monitor, and I noticed that the price of the 24" computer monitor is the same as the 26" lcd tv one.

what are the drawbacks of getting the tv lcd ?

thank you

I asked someone this same question yesterday and they said there was none. Granted, it was a Best Buy employee. I asked him why he didn't have any monitors over 22". He said 'cause most people will go for an LCD or plasma TV at that point.

I still wonder if they would throw off more heat, though.

Check the resolution, brightness, contrast, and viewing angle specs.

Resolution seems very good, contrast difference between LCD TV and monitoris
600:1 tv and 400:1 monitor

if only I knew what that means.

for something like daw control, well in other words, for us sound engineers and not graphic designers, would it be a better buy to get the dell lcd tv or the monitor?

thanks!

:)

i was about to pick up an lcd tv for the studio vs using my 21inch now. the one i was looking is a 26inch and has a dvi input so it would connect right to my computer...
i hooked my daw up to my 70inch mitsubish, hurt my eyes even at 800x600...but it was cool when i played movies off the computer...
anything over a 27-32 tends to start looking odd when connected to a computer imo

i figure it can double in the studio as a tv and/or pip souce for camera's....get directv setup and maybe sample tv shows or something...if not we keep the xbox 360 around so after i long session someone can get their ass kicked in madden 07 :D LMAO

at that point you have to start looking at pixels. i just got a 37" sharp LCD TV - it only has 1388 x 768 pixels, it's HDTV, but still low res compared to a nice computer monitor.

a 24 or 30" lcd monitor will pack more pixels onto the screen, thus giving you more screen real estate. the dell 24" for instance has a resolution of 1920x1200.......meaning you can fit a lot more shit on screen.

a lcd tv might be _bigger_ but you'll end up seeing less information on the screen.

hope that helps...........

hey cynic, let me run this by ya..

my current monitors specs are:
Recommended Resolution:1680x1050
Contrast Ratio:600:1
Power Consumption: 60W (max)
Viewing area: 140°[H]/130°[V] (CR>=10)
170°[H]/170°[V] (CR>=5)

the lcd tv:30inch
Recommended Resolution:1280x768
HDTV: 480i, 480p, 720p, 1080i
Contrast Ratio: 600:1
viewing area: 170°(H) / 170°(V)
power Consumption: 200Watts

so trully its better for me to keep my monitor or buy an extra one vs getting the lcd right????

yeah i wouldn't get the tv....all you're going to have is less stuff on the screen. the windows and icons will just appear physically larger than on the monitor.

get a 2nd and run them side by side, or grab a widescreen monitor like the 24" dell...

for instance, i run 2 18" lcds, each at a resolution of 1280x1024...that gives me 2560x1024. it's dope to run cubase with arrange page on one screen, mixer on the other............

one thing more i'll say is if you're still on a CRT definitely make the move to a LCD with DVI input. everything on the screen is much more crisp and easier on the eyes.

peace...

Yup.

Whatever you do, don't get a plasma for that purpose. Very nice for moveis and Xbox.. but still too much burn-in, even on the newest and best models.
