Best Time Stretching Software?

Those of you who do a lot of time stretching/compressing, which program is the best in terms of sound quality? I've tried Wavelab 6, SoundForge 8, and Prosoniq Timeworks 2 so far. Wavelab seems to do the best, but there's times, especially with complex samples, where even Wavelab distorts the hell out of a sample even going a few BPM. Is there a program or plugin that'll do better than these 3?

Cool

Speed, Pitch N Time, also the new Digidesign X Form. Depends on your platform, & software program you work out of.

Without a doubt, the VERY best software in this category in my opinion is Digidesign's X-Form. This plug-in is AudioSuite-only, so you have to be running PT. I own SoundToys SPEED, Waves SoundShifter, and Serato's Pitch 'n Time Professional, and hands-down the winner is X-Form. If you are on PT it is well worth the $495 USD IMHO. Transients are preserved, the sound is more "natural", I am really impressed with this software. When it was released last week I was blown away by the demo and bought it immediately.

If you are not on PT then Waves' is probably second-best of the ones I have experience with.

Thanks y'all. I work in Sonar, so I need a standalone app or a VST. I can't afford PT.

Waves Soundshifter, huh? I'll look for it. Part of Frisco you from, JD?

Have you upgraded to Sonar 6 yet? It has the Izotope Radius timestretching/pitch shifting algorithm. The demos on Izotope's site sound excellent, and before Sonar 6 it's only been available as a Logic plugin.

i could be wrong but i think that this is the algorithm used in the new Digidesign X-Form which is excellent, so if that is the case, i say definitely upgrade to Sonar 6 if you can!!

Haven't upgraded yet. I'm waiting for a 6.1 or a patch or something. New versions always have unforeseen bugs, so I always wait.

JD, I lived in the 'E' for 10 years, right off Mission. Just moved out matter of fact.

I'm with you there.. haven't upgraded yet either. The Izotope Radius functions are what's attracting me the most right now.

Yup, from the Digidesign website:

"X-Form is based on the iZotope Radius time-stretching and pitch-shifting algorithms under license from iZotope."

I'm loving Cakewalk right about now!

iZotope Radius!! I actually saw this demoed today at AES and i was truly amazed. Watching someone move a Audio file like they are adjusting midi notes is mind boggling in itself, but the sound was impressive as well. Although, i didn't have headphones on, and wasn't able to really take a good listen. I couldn't hear the difference between the original track and something stretched with Izotope radius. No artifacts, No Tails cut off. Reverbs still trailing.. Man its something you have to hear to believe.

Cakewalk has the algorithm built into the new Sonar 6. Its also been licensed to Digidesign as others have said. You can also buy the plugin, but its only made for logic. Theres no VST or DX etc.. (as of yet) But the guy at the iZotope booth said its not out of the question.

Nothing compares to it. Not that Ive heard at least.
