any good? anyone tried it? seems like a serious sound morphing tool...

In my opinion, currently FilterFreak is the one to beat. I haven't heard any plug that comes as close to creating that analog gooey-ness as FilterFreak, the saturation effects are worth the price alone. The Antares has a bunch of features but the sound just won't compare.

I downloaded the demo and will be purchasing it... its difficult to compare it to Filter Freak as Antares Filter does so much more.. I was pleased with the sound quality... Antares have a bunch of $$$ from Autotune sales to get these things right... I'm a fan of their products as they generally are very innovative rather than just cloning plugs (eg. Kantos)...

I used it as RTAS in Pro Tools and VST in Live 3 and it worked flawlessly... sensible cpu usage also...

Noah from SoundToys here...just wondering what your gripe was with FilterFreak. Apart from only having 2 filters instead of 4, I'm intereseted in hearing what it can't do that the Antares Filter can do? We have all the rhythm sequencer stuff, LFO shape editor, modulation tweak settings, etc. As well as having built in a distortion section that took months, and can help get lots of different sounds out of the filters.

Have a good one, and if anyone has specific questions about FilterFreak I would be happy to answer them.

no gripe... I think both products are great, but difficult to compare IMO. The Antares having 4 filters to arrange in series or parallel being the major factor - the Filter Freak being particularly strong on analog modelling/saturation, etc.

I see the 2 as quite different beasts...

I need something to use in both Pro Tools and Ableton Live and already having 2 excellent analog filters as part of a modular system the 'analogue sound' is less important to me - I want to try the added programming possibilities afforded by 4 filters...

I love the way Antares gives you so much power all veiwable from the 1 window...

Ok, that's a good answer...and I can understand your choice. When we created FilterFreak we really wanted to the sound of a good analog filter, coupled with the interface/midi/sequencing abilities afforded in a DAW.

BTW, you can run our Filters in either series or parallel as well.

Anyway, have a good one, and enjoy your Filtering. It sounds like you are pretty into it. You can do very cool things with Filters.

just wanted to say how much I'm enjoying the new Phase Mistress plug-in.

Downloaded the demo and am having great fun already... VERY powerful and a wide range of sounds from smooth to edgy...

anything else in the pipeline apart from the Granular Echo Synth?

Thanks for your note about PhaseMistress! We are always glad to hear that our stuff is ok. We ended up putting way more time into the PhaseMistress than we thought we were going to, but in the meantime I think we created something special.

BTW, check our website out, we have a new Holiday/NAMM offer that's pretty nice.

We do have a bunch more plugs in the works. I don't really need to say much about them here, but over the next 4 months we will be very busy. To give you a hint we will have a full line of classic effects out. Everything from Tremolo to Echo to a Auto Panner.

I remember on that special offer page you were announcing something about TDM versions, but I didn`t`find that info again : Are you working on those ? When will they be available ?

One more question about the build in step sequenzer :
I am having a had time getting it in sync to the song. It`s not the actual tempo, it`s the grid that doesn`t seem to sync to the song. So everytime I start the song, the sequenzed moves behave differently.
Is this a common problem or did I miss anything ?

Looking forward to your next plug ins ( ... and your next offers .... )

i would be so nice to have the soundtoys plugins in a non-digidesign format...i have a protools system in the studio but no digistuff on my laptop... and yes i'm a logic user, so no rtas...
i tried the demo of filterfreak and it rocks big time.

audio units or vst would be great.

Nico,

You're absolutely right - you need to sync both the tempo AND the downbeat. You can do this by locking to MIDI clock in Pro Tools. Go to the MIDI menu in PT, and select MIDI Beat Clock. Check the checkbox at the top, and also for any instances of FF or PM. Now, the Freak should be totally in sync with your session.

BTW, there's a pretty detailed explanation of this in the manual - it's in the section "How to Give FilterFreak a Real Beating"

PSP is coming out with a filter plug for VST in january...from their previous products i'd think it would have that analog gooeyness that filterfreak brings to PT land...so hopefully this'll do the same for vst land?

hi,

i'm in native land so i can't comment on the filterfreak. but i like antares filter better than that 4 band Filter plugin from Ohmforce (Quad Frohmage). Which was a big suprise to me cos i love Ohmforce stuff. I'm anxious to get my hands on that PSP filter plug cos anything psp is usually very nice.....

i love filters, and any sort of analog throw-back fx, but i need AU support (logic user, and we aint gettin' any RTAS support any time soon). any reason why you are only supporting the 'Tools' formats?
