WTF it isnt the delay compensation as far as i know, nothing had changed from yesterday and when it started i reset the delay comp and nothing changed....

anyone know whats erong or how to fix it?

im using a motu pci-424 24i/o.. when i disable the external plug ineverything is gravy btw

There are two ways to change the delay compensation with an external plug-in. You can go into VST connections in preferences, into external effects and right click the delay column (and then clicking on the Check user delay). You should see the delay amount depending on your external effect.
It is also able to determine delay by going into the insert effects slot for the group channel for that external effect, clicking on the insert effect, opening the insert editor, and pressing the button that "Measure Effect's Loop Delay for Delay Compensation".
I could do it both ways with SX3. Now with C4, I the VST connections route does not seem to work. Try it both ways and see if you get a result. You might have to do the user delay thing everytime you have the effect enabled. Also, different effects might have different delays. Thus, you have to recheck the delay whenever you make changes in presets.

I once had a similar problem, but it was because I forgot to bypass the reverb when 'pinging' for the delay

Never had any problems ever since.

I LOVE extFX!

Herwig,
Not that I think it is that important to ping reverb (but rather more important if using compression, chorus, etc.), but why would you bypass the reverb when pinging. Don't you want the time of transfer and the time of external effect processing of whatever effect you are using?

I had a problem like this once because I had the Totalmix routing on my RME card returning the reverb output to the outputs I was using for my monitors.

If I don't bypass the reverb (or any other time-based effect) the cubase pinging system gets confused and doesn't know what the exact delay is it has to compensate for.

FWIW: I always bypass effects when calculating the delay.

Thanks Herwig. I notice when measuring delay (if I recall correctly) through the ADAT transfer to my KSP8, I'm usually looking at less than a msec. That does not affect reverb, but if you're going to use parallel compression, you will get phase issues if you bypass the effect when measuring delay. The same would be true for chorus and rotary-type effects, but they would be less noticeable since you're already screwing with the sound significantly with the effect.
I'm going to double check this when I get a chance and post.

If you would use your effect(s) in a traditional way (inserts or sends on a console) you wouldn't compensate for the delay the effect in question causes, do you ? Same thing I always thought about the external effects: I let Cubase calculate the delay made by soundcard and converter latency, then put a unit out of bypass to use it.

An example here

TD4, SansAmp BassDriver DI, TC M3000 and BSS 901/Millenia STT-1 as external fx, mixed ITB with stems OTB. Album gets mastered next week by Darcy Proper at Galaxy Studios

The kick in & out and snare top&bottom are processed with the TD4 and we didn't hear any phasing issues.
