Thread Starter | how does Logic Pro 7 compare to Cubase SX3?
I have always used Cubase, but just switched over to a Mac and saw that Logic can run with the Mac. In your opinion which one sounds better, is easier to navigate, etc,,, Thanks

nevermind, I read some other post that were similiar to mine, and I think I will stick with Cubase. The only thing that kind of sucks though is I always used Soundforge for editing and mastering, and now I found out that Soundforge is PC only. Do you think I can do this stuff on Cubase?

If you have an Intel Mac you can run it on bootcamp XP. That is what I do only I use Wavelab. Peak is decent on the Mac though. I have used Cubase as my main DAW for 5 years. I have tried many times to get into Logic. They are quite different really. I am still learning it because its something I should know. Keep in mind though Cubase is project oriented where as Soundforge is file oriented its a bit different. You can master in Cubase with some good plugins but you are not going to have build in DC offset, nice meters for EQ, rms etc. |

17", 2.0GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 1GB 667 DDR2 SDRAM, 160GB Serial ATA, DVD-R/CD-RW Super Drive 8x, 10/100/1000 BASE-T Enet, Built-in AirPort Extreme, Built-in Bluetooth 2.0, Built-in iSight, OS X 10.4.4 Not really sure if it will work or not? So your saying if I have the Bootcamp on my Mac, I don't need to go out and buy the Mac version of Cubase and can just use the old P.C software that I have? Also since Soundforge is P.C only I am assuming that will work on Bootcamp? I am starting to get a little worried, because I went and bought this MAC for recording use only, and now it's looking like I can't use all my software

They both sound good, tho' some pretend to state that Cubase/Nuendo sounds better. Audio and midi handling is Cubase is better and for sure more intuitive. Logic on the other hand is much more a total solution and comes with a lot of very good plug in effects as well virtuall instruments. Cubase is lacking totally on that one, tho' apparantly in Cubase 4 this corrected a bit (first have to hear and see it myself if the added plugs are indeed of an outstanding quality). But, since you always have used Cubase, why not staying with it? It will work fine on a Mac... Regards, Roger |

I have a Mac Pro. If you like Cubase, you'll be happy with the Cubase 4 upgrade - it's running fine for me so far. The new features & instruments are a plus compared to SX3. Of course not all 3rd party plugins are UB yet. As others have stated, Intel Macs can run XP via Bootcamp for apps that aren't OSX. Regarding your old software, I've found that the cost of upgrading your favorite apps will pay off in the long run, so I recommend planning your budget accordingly. RD

How do you judge the new plugs of Cubase 4 so far? Any good? Regards, Roger

If you mean the audio plugs, I haven't had time to try them out yet. I use UAD plugs almost exclusively, so I always go to my Fairchild, Pultec, Plate 140, Dreamverb, etc. at mix time, and I just got the Neve comp. If you mean the V.I.s, in my opinion they sound good, limited in preset selection, but very tweakable with nice fx. Musically they raise the bar compared to SX3/Nuendo, and they close the gap a bit compared to Logic. RD |
