Rack Mount PC Cases

Anyone want to recommend certain models/brands/places to shop for rackmount PC cases (not for servers). If there are any specifically designed for use in areas that require quiet (like recording studios), that would be even more appreciated.

Thanks
Eric

antec take 4 looks great but has one nasty design flaw

front door ways a ton and is attached by cheap plastic joints..
simply let the door fall open with its own weight and watch it break like that

this is such a bad design that they probably will fix it in the next design or have fixed it already but if you have the chance check out the way the door is latched on..
ive had 2 rackmount cases suffer from the same.. even when i got the antec i knew to be carefull of that but such an easy thing to happen.. burn cd.. tray opens door and voila.. broken case door

Thanks for the tips, y'all.

I didn't realize how freaking expensive these things were, however, so I think I'll suck it up and stick with a tower.

I got an RM 420 from here http://www.xcase.co.uk/, looks like they don't have it anymore.

The trouble with most 4U rack computer cases is they are really deep, but if you are building a mega dual processor box, you may need the space.

This case will serve you well @ 18.5" deep.

I just got this one two weeks ago- it is not silent but serves my needs well.

It is 19" deep, fits in my rack, which has 20" of rackable depth. They have a lot of other models too and were easy to deal with. I bought this one because the power switch was on the outside, so if I ever lost the keys on a remote date I could still turn the computer on (just wouldn't be able to burn CD's until I found the keys!).

got a plink too. I recommend buying a psu seperate, the stock ones are pretty loud. Also, consider some sort of dampning inside the case. I noticed that all the clicks and ticks of the drives seem to be amplified in an all metal case.

rackmount PC

I have this one -

http://www.rackmountmart.com/rm1u/rm1002.htm

Yes, it's 1U and only 13 inches deep. This was my first PC (i'm a mac user) and I built it from parts. Building my first PC was hard enough, fitting it into 1U was quite a challenge. It is loud, but I use it for gigs and not so much in the studio. I guess that doesn't help you much. Some of the things I did learn, that may be worth mentioning....

I had no need for an optical drive and that saved me space and helped with airflow, ran cooler, less fan noise.

As with most computer PSU's there was about 2 miles worth of superfluous power cabling and plugs, after cutting that stuff out I had much better airflow, ran cooler, less fan noise.

I drilled 30 or so holes above the CPU. Better air flow, ran cooler, less fan noise.

Both the 2nd and 3rd tricks I rememberred from when a certain boss of mine 'modified' a certain noisy console that had respiratory issues inherent to it's design.
