Macbook Pro SSD choice

Just wondering if there is anything I need to consider - about to take the plunge and get a 500gb SSD. At present it seems Crucial M4 is a solid choice in terms of reliability but the Samsung 840 500gb is newer and faster - but its storage technology apparently will last less time...similar price...

Any thoughts?

I recently bought a new Macbook Pro with 16GB Ram and 512 SSD. By the time i push the 'On' button its pretty much running full speed - amazing. I store all my stuff to a Lacie 512GB backup via firewire and its all super fast. I am running Cubase 7 and its all very smooth and cant imagine why I would need anything faster. Anyway thats my 10 pence worth of opinion!

Love the Macbook

i put a 500gb OWC SSD in my new MBP and a 1tb HDD in the optical bay...it's a screamingly fast system. i think you'll be fine with a crucial, OWC or samsung SSD.

For me an Intel SSD - after a year it seems bulletproof.

Ok here is the deal when I equipped my Mini last spring I did a lot of research. I picked two of the fastest drives on the market and both have 5 year warranties. One is the Samsung 840 pro (rated as fastest) and the other was the Plextor M5pro Xtreme (rated best at heavy file transfer). I use the Samsung as my system drive. I went with the Plextor for my audio drive because it actually rates above the Samsung for heavy file transfer. The new crucial M500 is nice but If I had to do build another setup I would still most likely use the Samsung and the Plextor.

Oh and do not use the regular Samsung 840 just because its cheaper it uses a different type of Flash ram than the Pro. If you want to save money the new amazing bang for the buck is the 840 EVO.

cool yeah I heard the flash in the regular 840 was apparently less durable over the Crucial drives and the 840 Pro...

Its looking like either the EVO or Crucial M500...20Gb extra with the EVO...another 12Gb with a Vertex 4...

I have bought some Samsung 840 EVO's and they are just as fast as the 840 Pro and quite a bit less money (using Blackmagic Disk speed Test). The 512 GB goes for about $340 on Amazon right now. The 1 TB drive is about $600 which is an awesome price for that amount of storage and speed.
