How much RAM do I need in a MB or MBP

I'm going to use it for programming softsynths etc and PT MPowered.

Will 1 GB do, or do I need 2 GB?

I'd go with at least two.

I just upgraded to four. Two wasn't hacking it for the most intensive BFD sets. You should be all right with two, tho.

Is it possible to upgrade the RAM in MB Pro yourself, or do you need to specify it when you buy your computer?

You can do it yourself easily. its a little trickier on a macbook. You need to remove the battery and then proceed to unscrew the metal parts on the side. from there you can add/remove RAM. It was a pain on mine because one of the screws was stuck real bad and they are small so it was a bitch to unscrew...

2 gb is plenty i think...

Good to know since the price in Apple Store tends to be a bit above what you can order them for from your regular PC retailer.

Thanks!
