problems w/ computer recognizing audio card or my converter??

I swear I don't even know why I bother with this stuff sometimes. It seems like everytime I get any momentum going with recording songs, some B.S happens, and I'm sidetracked for 2 weeks to a month. Here's the problem. I had to take my computer in to get fixed today, becaue the power kept failing. Anyway when I got back home and reconnected everything, and started up Cubase it said that the audio needed to be tested. I went thru the test and it said that it was succesful. I pull up Cubase, and open up a song, and I can hear the audio fine, but when I try and record something I get this delay were I will say something into the mic, and a second or two will go by and then I'll hear it. This has happened in the past, and some guy has had to come out and fix it for me. Its some problem were my computer is confussed as to which audio device to use I think?? A few boxes pop up and say "Reset devices in options menu communication w/ audio lost, as well as EASI or MME must be used one at a time. Use system tray to disable /enable MME interface?? I don't know if this helps, but I am using a M Audio Duo mic pre. If you could help me with this problem I would appreciate it. Piece

First you need to make sure Cubase is looking at the M Audio ASIO driver and NOT the multimedia driver. Go to devices-->device setup--> VST multitrack/audiobay. Make sure the ASIo driver is set to your M Audio. Most likely your latency is due to using the wrong driver. If you are on the M Audio driver then in your M Audio software you can adjust the latency/audio buffer size (lower) for less delay.

Pretty much the only time Cubase asks to test anything on startup is when using the generic multimedia driver. This test is meaningless as you are going to change the driver to your audiocard's once Cubase is up so you can skip it.

I'm a step ahead of you because I went to the devise set up on the main menu and it says Multimedia driver NOT M Audio ASIO driver. When I try and switch them over it says EASI or MME must be used one at a time. Use system try to disable /enable MME interface.? I'll try and do what you said though, and see if that works.

Yeap I tried it and it didn't work. I don't understand it because ASIO/EASI IS selected not MME??? I wish I could just call Cubase but I can't because the version on my computer is not mine. I bought it from a friend. Now I know why the A Hole sold it to me

reag.....
ive seen this problem before.
might or might not apply in your case.
but are you sure you have your sound device .
control panel set up correctly ??
(look in your manual that came with the sound device.)
also please post back your signal chain AFTER the stereo output of the sound
device.....ie....whats the output monitoring chain ??
you havent given a ton of info on your set up thus difficult to comment further.
its possible your friend sold to you in good faith but the sound device isnt configged properly(via its control panel...lots of folks often forget to config the sound device control panel properly..) OR its a setting in cubase OR something on the output side.
those are the areas i would look at.
difficult without being there.
ps...according to one poster HERE >>>http://reviews.harmony-central.com/r...Audio/Duo/10/1
asio4all works with it. thus you might try the asio4all driver.
