Thread Starter | USB2 or Firewire HD with a Firewire audio interface?
Hi! I'm getting a TC Konnekt 24 Firewire interface for my notebook PC and I'm also getting an external HD. Which would work best, USB2 or Firewire? (I'm getting either a WD or Seagate). Also, in what order should I connect them if using firewire? - Audio interface first or HD first in the chain? Would really appreciate any help. Thanks! /Magnus |

| check out this site http://www.mobilityelectronics.com/e...omp_speed.html I hope this will help u. If new Expresscard supports 2.5GB/s perfectly, i would get it. usb or firewire is slower than pci or pcmcia but usb2.0 is faster than firewire 400 |

Well, those numbers are nice, but usb 2.0 usually sucks for me compared to fw400, and I have 2 external drives, that have both connectors on them. I tried the usb2.0 route first, as my macbook pro has only one firewire 400 port, and am chaining the drives behind my interface. Most the folks I've talked to have experienced the same as me. USB2.0 is fast for small files, but it's continuous throughput doesn't perform as well. maybe it's just the mac's though. I can't give you any hard numbers, I'd have to find a stopwatch and time some 2gb file transfers, but I'll see about doing that with side by side comparisions on my 200gb 7200rpm 8mb WD external with both the USB 2.0 and the FW400.
