Which Compressor PlugIn would you use on your MixBus in Pro Tools HD?

I am curious what (out of the following list!) you would mix into:

Bombfactory BF76
Digidesign Compressor Dyn 3
Bombfactory Fairchild 660
Bomfactory Fairchild 670
Focusrite ffd3
McDSP G Dynamics
TC Master X3
McDSP Mc2000 (2,3, or 4)
Sony Oxford Compressor/Limiter
Sony Oxford Dynamics
Digidesign Smack!
Eventide Omnipressor

I am thinking about getting "IMPACT"; does anyone of you have any experiences / comparions with all those plugs...?

you'll have to add the WAVES SSL COMP, RENN COMP, and the L2 as an option. I do not use itb compression very often.

95% OTB..but if forced ..maybe the sony stuff..
impact aint worth the $ ..

Look at the URS stuff too ..
with some tweaks,I've gotten thier SSL style comp to sound pretty decent on the 2B.

None of the above!

I've used pretty much all of the listed plugins fwiw.

No plugin has ever worked on the master bus for me. I would rather have no plugin at all. Actually, Cranesong Phoenix can work ok at times, though it's not a compressor per se.

Good luck though.

PS. Impact is 'ok' for drum subs as far as plugins comps go.

you´re right, but the Waves SSL bus comp is great! makes things glue and punchy!
i use them and it´s the only comp that gets into my MixBus

Why have Sony comp and Sony Dynamics as 2 different options in the vote, and then rule out Waves SSL???

I mean the Dynamics and the Limiter. These are the names Sony uses...
Waves = WUP = bad.

Does anyone here like Logic's Adaptive Limiter on the 2 bus?

I've been using it for rough mixes and I think it sounds pretty cool. Adds some distortion and makes the mix loud.

I've always used the "red3" and seem to be alone in this poll.

I also use a verb set to 10% wet, and sometimes an eq3 for a touch of top end.

This has been my defacto stereo buss setup on every ITB mix I've ever done.

djui5 - you really use a reverb inserted on your master buss? That's a trip.

I have been using the McDSP compressorbank VERY lightly and it is decent...I follow that with the Massey limiter...sometimes the URS "API" buss EQ as well.

I put reverb on the 2bus all the time. I love the way it sounds. But then again I do LOTS of stuff that people around here think is taboo. And I do it because I like the way it sounds.

It's so weird that there are so many things people around here "never" do.

So many rules.

Yuck, that's no fun at all.

No, I'm not kidding at all. I use that same chain for EVERY ITB mix I do, like I said. I've had people flip out on me "don't ever put anything on the master buss" but whatever. When I mix without people telling me how to do my job, the mixes come out great. I've mixed without it before, but don't like it.

Been doing it for years. It's "my secret". Well, it was anyway. I don't care who knows though. I can give you all my settings, but you still can't mix like I do Not being egotistical, just honest. We all have different ears, and that's what makes this industry great.

Stop obeying the rules and do what sounds good to. There is nothing to be scared of. So what if you loose a gig over it, doing what sounds better to your ears is your job, and if a client can't respect that, then that's their problem.
