Thread Starter | Myspace confusion...
I don't get it. I have a powerbook G4- and I "borrow" my wireless internet from my neighbor. I've never had any problems as far as bringing up websites- but for the past two or three days I can't get to my myspace page. I can get to myspace.com- then when I enter my password and hit enter the bar at the top fills up about a half inch then stops...... doesn't move anymore.... However- using wireless at other places it works. The only other option I have in my place is my pc laptop and thats hooked up to DIAL UP. Every other website works fine as usual- but whenever I try to visit a myspace page- nada. Anybody know what the deal is? I use Safari and I've cleared my history and emptied my cache if that helps.... |

Weird that it sometimes works (on other connections) but you can try to use Opera instead of Safari. Theres a lot of talk on the apple forums about people having problems with MySpace and Safari. But if it works some times...... who knows. Give Opera a go though. Best. |

I think your neighbor borrows your computer to make a gigantic cluster everytime you visit myspace. Then he uses the cluster to slow gearslutz down... Naughty boy! tutt /Cojo |

First things first, PAY FOR YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION 'ya freakin' theif!!! Second, maybe your neighbour put parental controls on myspace and has it blocked somehow? I don't know how all that stuff works... But maybe it's time 'ya got your own highspeed connection eh?

I'm in college. (not a big budget here as far as high speed- plus im here for 3 more months) I got the laptop from school, and it has wireless, and when I open my computer, I have wireless connection. Would you use dial up over wireless? Plus, he could just put a password up for his server which wouldn't allow me to get on so I figure, hey, if he wants to share, I want to borrow! However, I still don't understand it... Hopefully it'll just start working soon- Thanks- dfegad Safari |

| What is it about college students that gives them this sense of entitlement? I swear every college student I meet has a terabyte of ripped music. You would think such an expensive education would allow them to think deeper, and extrapolate the consequences of their actions... I guess not. What a waste.

That's a pretty ignorant statement to judge someone that bums internet off his neighbor which in my case- I doubt if I told him he'd really even care! But since I borrow my neighbors internet, you're right. I download every song that's released, just cuz I'm in college. I steal old ladies purses, when they say, "HEY YOU" I reply "Shut up hoe! I'm in college!" In which they reply, "Oh sorry!" I cut down trees. Since I don't have children, I beat random kids. I don't pay for my cable. And I use all jacked plug ins and software. I wish I could think deeply and know the consequences to my actions, but fug it, I'm in college!

I was in traffic court and this college kid was in front of the judge for not paying a $70 dollar speeding ticket. The kid said "I can't afford it because I am in college and I had to pay for books". The Judge asked him what kind of car he drove. The kid proudly said "a 2002 Nissan 200SX". The judge replied "I don't know what kind of car that is, but you're going to jail" and cracked his gavel on the bench. IDIOT!

Well, I'm all for people carrying their own weight. But if I'm in the field and I need to look something up now and there's a signal and net connection right there waiting for me... I do what I have to do. Now, I've occasionally wished I could ALSO leave a message behind telling my perhaps unwitting host that it's okay if he wants to provide free access for the 'hood but he should make DARN sure he's keeping a tight fist on his local machine's security. In fact, in my own 'hood, I have mentioned to a couple neighbors that they should PW protect their WiFi. (If my laptop's ancient WiFi wizurd is active -- which it needs to be to find my base -- it will keep on looking for new connections even if my base, as is usual, is providing it a max signal... so I've had occasion to fight off my neighbor's connections if I'm not careful to kill the wizurd after I've connected to my own base. Thankfully, my desktop's WiFi works flawlessly and transparently.)

| If someone is stupid enough to leave a wifi connection open, then he deserves what he gets, which may include a visit from the police after his neighbor downloads a buch of child porn.

| Well, in my case they're more likely to have the footprints of a frantic search of the Microsoft Knowledgebase followed by an even more frantic -- but usually more successful -- google search for the same information.

I'm going to start going to the local places that offer free wireless (restaurants, coffee shops, etc.) and start smacking everybody in there and tell them to go home and get their own wireless. I posted this thread to see if anybody knew what the problem was, not to get a lecture from some old bitter man. 2. I have a 3.2 GPA in a school where the grading scale is 100-95 = A, 94-85 = B, 84 -75 is a C, and so on... I hang out with Mr. T, I sing "Video Killed The Radio Star" in public without anybody daring to question me, I share six packs of Yuengling with llama's on Friday nights, and Chuck Norris and I shoot pool and roundhouse kick foreigners on Wednesday nights. Just don't be bitter about it. Ok? |

For the record, I'm 27... Just curious, what do you think I am bitter about? And actually I'm not even that hung up on the internet thing. His logic is ridiculous, and that's what I'm challenging. I wouldn't have even bothered, but when he defended himself by saying "I'm in college", the door was opened. |

Just get over it. I just don't see what you're trying to accomplish with all this bickering...? I mean, one could come to the conclusion that you just like to b!tch about whatever you can! If it honestly bothers you that much- just PM me or something. You already jacked the thread with your dislike for college students and your stereotypical mindset- Next time- just complain to your wife/girlfriend/local bum. They'll care about what you have to say a lot more than myself or anyone else here for that matter.
