I did a little test on hd 4 which is really an hd3 w/ an accel card after reading the mac pro results over at the computer forum side, I would say that in the ssl test I am about 1/2 the power, maybe less.

Of course I have never maxed out my system, and there are other differences and of course mine is over three years old and has always been a'workn.

But that native stuff is gett'n mighty orn'ry

(For the love of God, delete this thread. There are plenty of discussions going on all ready about things of this nature.)

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that the Pro Tools HD Excell 7 will work better for recording and editing music, and the Mac Pro Quad will run a larger variety of software applications.

If I understood it correctly Tony Belmont compared a Mac Pro to be equal to the power of what would be a Pro Tools|HD Accel 10(1 Core Card + 9 Accel Cards). Someone/anyone correct me if I understood this.

A 777 Subject.

In comparison to the power of the HD system running only the Waves SSL Channel strip. I also would like to point out that I did run into some RAM issues with my test (only stock 1 GB installed), but the addition of a 2 GB upgrade should alleviate that. From what I understand, you can't even put 9 x Accel cards in a HD system. Another poster commented that he got 144 x channel strips on his HD5 Accel, I was able to get 150 at half cpu power with Logic and my Mac Pro.

you can use 1 Core Card and a max. of 6 Accell Cards!
so HD7 would be max, there is no HD10.... sorry!

Digidesign better come up with a solution, & fast! Maybe we'll see Pro Tools HD Accel Turbo cards at AES next month, or something along that line.

We don't need turbocharged cards... The performance is already there natively. What we need is better sound, not more power.

Cool

If you ask me we need both. If you work Pro Tools exclusivly host wise(LE, or M Box) then you only get 48 tracks(Am I right. This last I checked). If you want more then that then you need a Pro ToolsHD system. This especially for those who don't want to make the leap to Logic Pro. So if you stay with Pro Tools then you'd have to have more powerful process cards. And I agree with you to the extent that we need better sound, & this especially if you work with Pro Tools HD at a sample rate lower than 88.2. Apogee conversion sounds better at 44.1 than a Digidesign 192. But, the higher the sample rate you work at with a Digidesign 192 the less difference you hear when comparing the Apogee conversion to the Digidesign 192 conversion. By the time you get to working both interfaces at 176.4, or 192 it gets down to personal preference. All of this gets me wondering how much processing we all really 'need'.

A Mac Pro with an HD3 Accel still beats a Mac Pro without.

Which monkey is pissing more, or better, than the others?
Easy to find out- just lay down beneath them all, and whichever fills your mouth first wins...but if one tastes better, you might be better off choosing him, even if he is unable to fill your mouth as quickly, or stably. In fact, you might want to disregard the monkey entirely, and instead focus on whether the person who trained the monkey to pee like that can fill your mouth with shite faster and better than monkeys can with urine.... or maybe you could ask the trainer to just pound the shite into your ears...squishy, squishy...

One thing I'd like you to understand. It's much easier to be done than to be satisfied!!
