Using my monitors and the 002 for regular desktop use?

So somehow after exiting protools, someone messaged me on my msn messenger and the sound went through the studio monitors I have here. But I can't get itunes or the dvd player on my mac to play through the speakers, only the little speaker on the g5 tower.

Yes I'm stil fairly new to the mac. Anybody know where to fix this? I tried in system settings but the audio option didn't allow me to set the 002 inputs or outputs in OSX

are your monitors routed through a SPDIF connection? That was a problem for me.

the simplest thing to do is not route everything through the 002 but connect the ouboard sound to the ALT-Source input and push the Alt-Src to Mon button to hear it.
