Why?

The L-A presets are based on the 4000E that Waves modelled.

Duende is like a C200.

The 2 sound different.

Copying the presets across wouldn't sound "right".

Save yourself some time and use your ears to hear what sounds right.....

Presets in general never really sound right...

they sound different like two members of the same family, so somehow they sound similar.

My point is you´ll get an idea about CLA´s EQ/comp philosophy ( kind of a dynamic frequ. carving thing...) by trying the presets on whatever plug or hardware.

You could use an Oxford EQ folowed by Oxford dynamics as well and get similar results.

So the fact that allmost none of us is able to physically look over CLA´s shoulder to study what he does makes the presets a very helpful tool for learning a bit of his philosophy.

....Andrews, just curious: you have posted about the Waves SSL bundle / SSL Duende before.... are you still trying to make a decision about which to get or have you already taken the plunge and bought one or the other?? just wondering.. and if you own BOTH, which do you prefer??

i own the Waves bundle and am very happy with it FWIW, but am considering getting Duende as well sometime soon...

Cheers,
J.D.

Lightbulb I decided on none.

After all the reading, all the posts and my threads, I decided on buying neither. No one seems to be keen on the presets (which I only found as a learning device and good starting point anyway, secondary consideration).

No one in blind tests could REALLY pick them out...even among other comps!

I'm goin for the real thing.

Mini SSL 4000 E

I wonder if that will sound as good?

P.S. I I wre to get them, I think I'd o with both, I've heard strenghts for both, weaknesses on others...and who knows in my SSL mini/Pro Tools hybrid, maybe I'd still need some plugs... don't think so though. Never say never, right?

I've never understood EQ and Compressor presets, except for absolute beginners who don't know where to start. I can understand saving a telephone EQ effect that you use often, or a compressor preset for a client who comes into the studio often, but the EQ setting for a snare that you've never heard?

Although I guess for TLA it IS the same snare sample every time...

Some guy from SSL suggested they were considering putting out some presets, and growing the duende platform, but he was pretty vague about it.

I am gonna have enough problems getting a Dual Dual core setup to run with my Fireface and 2 UAD cards, I don't need another outside processing box. Same goes for the liquid Mix.....so tempting, but you're just asking for compatability problems. The Waves Native SSL plugins sound so good, I can't believe that you'd need Duende also.

Here's to that idea.

There's got to be some presets or a duende user forumS??

Noooooo....... Really? I thought computer music was all about using presets and pre-manufactured drum, bass, and vocal loops..?
