hey guys, i'm in a bit of a pickle here and hoping some knowledgable slut can help me. my story begins on a beautiful sunday morning when the sun was shining and the birds were singing etc. and i started tracking a couple of songs with a mate of mine on his cool edit set up. cut to the present day, and i'm trying to finish them on my pro tools system. we didn't get time to bounce tracks (which was ok as we were still playing with the structure and it was done to the cool edit click track), so i have the raw files on cd. but something is not right! setting the tempos to what they were in cool edit, there is a few hundred samples difference between the cool edit files and the pro tools grid. so i think ok, i'll just fine tune the tempo in tools to 105.0187 or whatever until it's sample acurate. so eventually i get there, only to find every file has a slightly different length, and no matter what tempo i try, the files never sounds like they loop properly. so then i get the idea to import the rough mix (a bounce from cool edit) into the session for a reference. that file, however, seems to drift out of sync to the raw files even unlooped, with the drums visibly drifting and audibly phasing even within the 8 bar section i am trying to loop. the only thing i can think of is that the encoding must be screwing everything up, as the files needed to be "converted" before pro tools could use them, and the rough mix was from an audio cd. i get the feeling i'll have to go back to the original cool edit session and bounce the tracks, even though it will probably set me back months as the other guy is so busy with other stuff. what i really want to know is how i can avoid this crap in the future if i need to work on the same song in 2 different programs. sorry... that's a long post |

| Gear nut | sort of. the files are all 2 to 8 bar loops. each track isn't consolidated, so i'm trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.
